I got two dates that would work, both have some advantages and disadvantages. Going to be at the Big Sleep area again, because of it's easy access.

June 24-26. Weather should be good, temperature wise, but a big snow year (hopefully) it might be one of the first weekends up there due to snow melting. Streams and creeks will have good water and approaches might have some snow, but nothing bad and the stone will be perfect. Close to the Solstice and the Moon cycle will be between full and 3/4.

September 16-18. Weather can still be hot up there, but usually pretty mild. Most likely no water and the biggest thing would be that is opening weekend for hunting. So, gunshots and quads would be a constant. It is a Full Moon that weekend though, and Big Sleep would see a lot of Moonlit traffic I think.

I'd prefer the June date, but seeing what some of yous guys and gals would prefer. Regardless, it's gunna be a blast.

Directions thanks Phyl

Here are the 2 wheel drive directions to the camping from the guidebook, typed out:

Brown’s Meadow Rd (7S02) directions:

Allow one hour from North Fork.

From North Fork, take the Mammoth Pool Rd (aka Road 225 aka Minarets Rd) east out of town and past the old mill, heading towards Mammoth Pools. At about 22-23 miles, before the pullout for Mile High Overlook, you pass Rock Creek Campground on the right. Three-quarters of a mile past the campground and before the road actually crosses Rock Creek, a major intersection on your left is dirt road 7S02 to Brown’s Meadow.

Fifty yards past the intersection there is a drinking water spring on the left.

Turn left on 7S02 and follow it about 7 miles until you can see Big Sleep Dome on the right. A small dirt road on the right leads to the right (south) side of Big Sleep Dome drainage and Shuteye Pass trail. Keep your eyes peeled because the turn, in the middle of a right-hand curve, is easy to miss if you are driving fast. This final short road is a bit rocky so drive carefully to avoid flats.

A large open area to your right on the way is the main camping area.

Sorry Moose, COR is not in the equation. June is looking like the consensus so far.

When is FaceLift? September might be perfect for those not in the San Joaquin Valley. That way, if FaceLift is at the normal time, they can come out for Shuteye, and then just move the party farther north the next week. Also, if we have a real El Nino year that approximates, say 1983 or 1969, we'll have trouble getting there without skis in June. For example, in 1969, there was still a small snow patch at the base of Monday morning Slab on July 4!

Still, I'll try to talk my wife into letting me borrow the Forester I got her, whenever the get-together happens. It disappointed me greatly to miss 2015. I'll try to make sure that I can make 2016.

I like your attitude Rob. Southgate soon?

Munge, the gates will not be an issue, but snow is the X factor. I think it should be good though...

I'm glad you are doing this again, Justin. Not sure if I can make it this year but I will mark my calendar once a decision is made.
Snow is the big unknown for sure.

this just in! Go for June. I am fine with having fewer people at City of Rocks and more at Shuteye, and any avid climber would enjoy doing both events in the same week.

Nature? We all would love to have you visit COR on your way out to ShutEye.

We can arrange for an adjacent camp for you, your dogs, & your Sushi groupies.

and yes to Nature sushi.

son of a bitch.

truth is by the time either of those happen if I still have my day jerb - 8+ years salaried doing web stuffs - it'll be big news. Hard starting a startup w/o funds. Hard starting a startup with time. Chicken or the egg question. I've decided to kill the chicken and hard boil the egg. Doesn't help much since I gave up eggs again (unless they are quail eggs on Uni but I digress).

kev is twisting my arm about as hard as it can be twisted before I can no longer slice fish with it. There's a good chance this happens one of these years.

I like where your heads at.

If there is snow, everyone bring a shovel, or a snow blower. lol
