hey there say, zip... what a neat thought.... i just sent some cards.... and i am trying to sell a dream catcher to earn some money to send her one...
i have no money and just got some food from a food truck... dogs and cats have food, so whatever i earn, i will only have about five bucks to send it to her...
i am very sorry i can not help...
say, keep giving this a bump and you will surely get some wonderful folks to do so, i just KNOW it...
:)
this is so sad.... cars do such wonderful trips for us, but yet cars can ruin many lives... mainly of course, accidental...
but--my twin buddies were nearly killed by a drunk.. and one twin has her eye ruined, never to be the same... :(
i just have a tender spot in my heart when folks gets hurt...
:(
thanks for loving your friendship with your climbing buddies, flouride, and posting this for "tacos"....
folks can always use a good cheering-section... and we can be it... :)
god bless, to all...

eKat, and others..
what i had in mind was a small plant garden. it comes with one to two different blooming flowers, and three small plants in a nice ceramic holder. the bloomers last around two weeks, and the rest continue to grow, and can be removed and replanted when they become bigger.
i like this arrangement, because after the flowers die off she will still have something alive and growing. when she gets home and is recovering she can replant them, and see them every day, which will hasten her recovery with all the good vibes from fellow Supertopians, who cared enough to send this to her, or something like that.
you can contact me off site, and i will give you my personal e mail address, paypal, and we are done.

t*r,
it appears that she has some pretty serious injuries, and doubtful that she will be moving any where real soon.
i think this nice gesture could help her recovery.

Okay, seems like good news...via her Facebook friend Michelle:
"I talked to Satoko today and she has a date to fly home on July 7th. She is anxious to start an aggressive rehab program as soon as possible. She really appreciates phone calls and would love to hear from you. 307 577-2646. She is an incredibly tough woman. I send her lots of strength and love."

In April 2003 I arrived at the Camp 4 bulletin board one Friday afternoon looking for a note from some Valley-bound friends. It was very quiet and I was startled when a young Japanese woman suddenly materialized right behind me, pointing to a scrap of paper on the board. (Maybe Tacos' first visit? Her english was a little rough.) The paper had some mysterious hieroglyphics and somehow I first thought she was looking for a ride to S.F. I apologized, no I couldn't give her a ride, but she persisted and kept pointing to the hieroglyphics which eventually revealed themselves to represent a belay device, harness, and carabiner. Aha! OK (yeah, I'm slow) this person was looking for a partner and possessed minimal gear. She seemed eager to climb.
Well I had a rope plus more than minimal gear so had a great time climbing with Tacos for the next day or so, including a mini-epic when we tried an early season ascent of a wet'n slimy Hanging Teeth with nothing larger than a #3 camalot. (Ultimately we rapped off some slingage conveniently left behind by previous bailers.) What a great climbing partner.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Tacos!!
Here are a few pics from that trip.

Ha! Do you remember that Camp 4 note? I can still 'see' those little drawings in my mind.
Anyway, as sobering as it is to hear about the accident, I hadn't seen Tacos since 2004 or 5 and was glad to learn she was still livin' the life. Thanks for posting the address and other info.
Is there any way for non-facebook users to participate in the fundraising? As a teenager I was in traction, then a body cast, for 4 months after an accident and fully sympathize with the frustrations of forced immobility, and can only imagine the added difficulties of it happening so far from home.

Okay, here's what the Facebook page reads:
Fly Tacos home to Japan!
To get tacos home to recieve the medical attention she needs.
Positions: Fundraiser
Category: Health
Description: My friend Tacos was in a car accident recently. She was on her way back to Canmore, Alberta from Colorado USA. She was flown to Casper Medical Centre in Wyoming where she underwent surgery for a broken neck. At the moment she has little movement from the shoulders down. She has some feeling in her toes and fingers and her breathing has become easier over the last few days. She has also gotten help to sit in a chair for a few minutes per day. She is remaining positive that she will recover and be able to rock climb again in the future. The first issue Tacos is faced with is that she is from Japan and her travel insurance is limited. It does NOT cover her flight home to Japan. In her current situation she will need 2 caregivers meaning that she will have to pay for 3 first class flights to Japan PLUS the wages and expenses for the her caregivers. The other issue is that physiotherapy is not covered by her travel insurance and the longer she puts off starting physio the greater chance in loss of recovery. I’m sure anyone who has met Tacos would agree that she is one of the most positive, fun, and amazing people they have ever met. She can make a friend in an instant, carrying her smile in any situation.
She is not certain the exact costs for her travels home but a rough guess is about $10,000 USD. In the grand scheme of things this is not a lot of money. Just think, if 100 people pitched in 100 bucks, she’d be home with her family and friends and on her way to recovery. 100 dollars is what?? 2 camalots, (that you don’t really need anyway, right!), or new pair of pants, or one night out. Baiscally, not much to sacrifice.
Tacos would be eternally grateful for whatever help you can send. Please let’s help in getting Tacos back to Japan, back on her feet, and back on the rock!

Her folks are probably fine.
Any parents with daughters that like to roam around and climb around the west know what they have in a kid. They're just happy their girl is out there loving life and living the climbing dream. While I'm sure her folks are concerned about her medical condition, they know she's part of an awesome climbing family and we'll get her home safe.
