JTM: I'm thinking Frazetta would bring in the tips better...

Maybe something in Warrior Queen/bouncer?

I'm curious for ideas on how I should ask for funds for this. with hundreds of people attending I'd imagine I'll spend $2K+ on fish. Like I said in the opening post this isn't working like a typical sushifest (except where Brick is concerned) so I'm not going to outright ask for $30/person. Buuuuuut.. I also ain't really got the coin to front the fish.

ideas?

Lynne: it's one of those tents just like the one I had in Yosemite.

I'm thinking we put two together and have a sushi bar on each end.

hmmmm... well now that I think about it I only have soy trays for about 50 people.I guess I do have disposable stuff. I hate to but may not have a choice.

Hey Doug-

I used to buy sushi quality at the LA fish market downtown for our family NY day fests. I'm not sure if I can get it off holiday. Prices were reasonable for the quality. Gotta shopping list? I'll look into it if you want.

EDIT- I'll front the coin if I can get the fish.

DD EDIT- email me at jtpbkaAT.AOL.com or call me at 310 - 351 - 1472.

Nature, give us a list of what you need. It worked well when you did it for the "Lift". I have one of those tents and will bring. I will also bring Big Van. What else do yo need ?

As far as $ for Fish ...no not you Russ.... :)

Do you need people to email you by a certain date ? Set date and set price...include an amount for you and for Tarbuster. This is a Fundraiser after all and it will be hugely attended and FUN> Smiles, and looking forward lrl

I am really looking forward to this because I haven't really gotten away since the first Sushifest, it will be great seeing / meeting you all, and I've somehow never been to Joshua Tree. Glad there's a get-in-shape window between now and then...

Hey there,
I live about a mile or so from Todd's place. I have some kitchen skills and would love to help out for this worthy cause. Also, there is room for after-party crashers in our driveway or living room. Let me know how I can help. I'll be in touch with Todd if you need to reach me.

I might have to call in sick for this one, true, since I will be, if I'm not there.

It sounds like it will be quite a large event, given the general location, the site (Gordon ranch), the time of year, the entertainment (Stonemasters, sushi, etc), and most importantly the cause. How many people are likely to attend? Working backward from that, what arrangements will be needed?

It sounds like 100 - 200 might be there.
Portable toilets? (Dwayne?)
Keg(s), and whatever is needed to dispense them?
City permits?
Sound system, screen and projector, large enough area?
Big cleanup the next day?
Emergencies?
Sushi?
Money?
Bodyguard for Roy, so 200 people don't shake his hand and wear out his arm?
Plus all the other great stuff that Rick, Todd etc are doing to make it happen.

I'd guess that a volunteer or ten will be needed to make this all work well. Not knowing the plans, site, or likely attendance, I can't say more, but some planning and preparation are likely to pay off. That is, to generate more funds for Roy, and make sure everyone has a good time.

Not to mention the stuff people have to figure out themselves - getting there, designated drivers, places to stay, etc.

It may help to have a new thread, just for people to indicate whether they're coming or not, and whether they'd want sushi or not. Doug can decide if he wants people to pay in advance, or will trust them to show up and pay. Maybe a wrist band system will work for that part.

contributing in advance will help. If we expect 200 people and 75 % of them want sushi than I'd imagine about $3K in fish needs to be shelled out (I probably don't have that to front all of it). That's what I spent for SushiFest IV:XX '07.

wristbands... I guess it really depends on how many people we expect that we can't trust to cough up into the "donation" jar.

Is there a way to rope off the sushi area? Is it needed?

One thing I considered is two sides to the sushi tent. One side is for folks that just want to nibble and pay as they go. The other side would be the VIP area. Cough up $XX and you get in that gate. That side would be heavy on the goods.

I'm scared. Serious runout on this one. But Roy is my belayer so I'm gooood!

I say between 100 and 200 people ( We have had parties here before with 200+).....I don't know how many want sushi........might be best to have a sushi list;....get some idea........good luck, and thanks for putting it all together, Doug;....and it seems like you have alot of Royabots willing to help out.........Sushi takes planning and work;......getting a bunch of rummies, has-beens, hacks, and beefers together at my house for a party is easy and takes little to no planning or prepping.....so thanks for the effort and work.

People can prepay for sushi.
We send you the $$ and you email us a gift certificate/coupons for x amount of sushi at the party.
Gets things started anyway.
