""Raw Deal is just to the left of Giant Step me thinks. Been a while since I've been there. Starts up a bit then some thin traversing to the left past 2 or three bolts and up to a flake which is followed to a little roof with a bolt. Mantle and up and over to the top. No pictures, sorry.
Tony""

That sounds right... I remember it now. :)

This post brings back tons of memories. Love the smell of the place after a spring rain storm. It seems like we learned so much about climbing and ourselves from those humble little rocks.
Here's a boulder now under the lake.

Phil - is that Keith on what we used to call the Butcher or the Fin? Can't tell from this angle, (and the 35 year lapse in memory...) I remember Keith as one of the older guys I looked up to, and now he just looks like a kid, oh my... time flies and our perspectives change.

hey there all... say, a very nice and interesting post here.... i like the history, too, of the rock that is now under the lake... you don't much photos that tell these kind of things, once nature has been all "changed around"....

You're right, Neebee.

Twenty-five years of "Climbing" and "Rock & Ice" I don't see Perris Lake mentioned once.

Twenty-fours on The Taco and we have first-account, illustrated history.

Please excuse the late response, but yes DonC and Tyeary that is Keith Leaman. And I do believe that is "the Butcher." That problem used to cut one's hands up real good.
I have a picture of brother Paul doing the first free ascent of "The Virgin". I'll post it on this thread if I can find it.

Along the theme of resurecting fav posts, I came across this in an old folder the other day. As a lot of us in So Cal climbed at Big Rock during our early years, I thought this might fit right in. This are from the 70's I believe. I'm sure some one has the low down Sorry about the doodling.

They're fixing to close it pretty soon.

They need to work on the dam or something, and Climbers will just f$ck everything up.

I've been there at least 100 times and never had trouble from anybody, just an occasional cop-ranger inconvenience which never ammounted to anything but a waste of climbing time talking to them. I park outside the gate usually, and never suffered a break-in ( but always kind of expect it ), but I always see fresh broken glass.

I'll watch my ass from now on.

Tough to tell when or for how long.

Check this out:

"Rock climbing at Big Rock, waterfowl hunting, sport fishing and access to the Bernasconi picnic area will be curtailed by the project."

It will probably be closed for a couple of years.

that's what happened last time they did work on the dam.
