I talked to Maysho @ Indian Rock in Bezerkely a while back and he had seen Leversee, in Truckee in the recent past said he was now into something like physical therapy(?)

I'm curious if "Best FA" must mean "Most Difficult FA"?

Ha! Then maybe "Your Worst First Ascent" should be your easiest?

I figured both were just mildly entertaining things to start threads about, on days when most of us posters are indoors but wish we weren't.

This un-obvious line could be in the running.

This one was fairly good, and has given a lot of climbers pleasure, although not particularly hard.

"Is that place still top secret or has it popped."

Gobie,
Highly doubt it's popped, but the SSCA distributed a fairly detailed bunch of topos to it's members in it's last printed newsletter - 'bout 2 years ago, methinks.

(Unless I'm completely off on the where of your discussion.)

Looking back, so much was about the people, not just the cliffs.

Hear Yee! I second (or third) that. Partnerships forged that go as deep as family.

Although climbing is a singular activity, it's really a team sport. I wouldn't be nearly as psyched if it weren't for all the bros and sisters I've climbed with.

BTW, great pics...

Jaybro...when you say into physical therapy do you mean in physical therapy. I know he was in alot of pain with his hip. Even then he still humped out to Angel Wings with ed and I and then he and I turned around like a month later and did a route on top of tehipite. He hobbled the entire way, hardly complained and ate the rock up. He mentioned at the time he could be in for some surgery.

Nate...is the SSCA still together. I was one of the original board members. We all sat around a living room (renee ardesch's I think) put a hundred bucks each in a hat and said lets form a climbing club. It had a quite of bit of momentum for a while. I get pretty regular emails from ed but he never mentions them either. After I post this i think i will do a search and see whats up.

One of the best I was ever involved with went up this chunk of granite.

There are others that were memorable as well for different reasons.

That silly stuff I set up on my home island...
What I really want to claim is a nice line on one of the island's big granite cliffs. Hopefully this August I'll be there and strong enough for a ground up ascent. Something tells me it is going to spit me off...
(I love dreams that give a good fight.)

I haven't done a whole lot of FA's, like some folks here. I have been lucky enough to find a few gems though. The one which means the most to me so far is Depairadoes on the Silver Turret, in The Gorge of Despair, Kings Cyn. 9 pitches, 5.12, traditional and very back country. The route was done in 1996 with Chelsea Griffie. Guy Keesee also put his blood sweat & tears into the project and provided this photo:

It's quite a place in there. As you begin to descend into the gorge your first sight of the silver turret is it's summit. As you continue down it reveals itself, bigger and bigger as you proceed. As I saw the prominent line I could not believe my eyes, and that it had not been done... Lucky me!
