A friend just got back from a 4 month expedition. He was around 350,000 meters above sea level. Naturally he was on O2 for the four times he went out and "walked" around. His suit though is not quite and comfortable as a down suit but quite warm.

So many people answered in an altered states related way, even after the OP anticipated, that I just gave up.

18k'+ on some trekking peak in Nepal.
Chemically - an abcessed tooth went nuclear one Christmas eve about 15 years ago. Half a bottle of tequila and a handful of Vicoden had no effect on the pain, so I managed to find a dentist who would see me early Christmas morning. He shot me up and gassed me, and pulled the tooth out. The highest I have ever been was sitting in a dentist's chair staring at the light while this little old man yanked my tooth out. I have never been so grateful to another human being in my entire life.

Does acid truly rank as a high? Hallucinogens are certainly not in the same league as them other drugs.

For out-of-this-world, batshit freaking high, I hear DMT is the way to go. Let me know if you meet the machine elves.

Whatever the elevation of the Eisenhower Tunnel is. Chicago winters when I was growing up left me with zero interest in alpine of any kind. I prefer to be as close to naked as possible when I climb rather than dressed up like the pillsbury doughboy trying to move.

Rox, can't say, but those I know who have tried it call it the businessman's lunch - you do a hit, visit parallel universes, and are back in time for the 1:30 meeting, and it doesn't show up in drug tests. My time for ingesting illegal substances is past, but it does sound intriguing. Apparently it may be a chemical involved in dreaming and death/near/after-death experiences.

Rokjox, I really can't say, LOL.
If you want to talk about feeding seagulls and watching pelicans fly (bizzare even without hallucinogens) or driving with the road flying up in your face while weird things come out of the radio, or drawing nude models, I might know something about that.
Never encountered any otherly beings though, not me.
I can't imagine climbing on LSD, cause everything pulsates and moves-- or so I've heard. It would be weird trying to grab a feature while it was moving.

Mt. Whitney also, only about half the height of Everest. But I did car to car in 10 hours so I was feeling pretty high on the summit.
2nd place also a Grateful Dead concert. 5 minutes after gobbling the mushrooms, the 'bunk' acid from 45 minutes earlier kicked in, uh-oh.

13k something on Peak Ten in the ten mile range. Then I jumped off.
19500 above white mtn in the White Mtn range in Owens valley. But I was cheating, I flew up there in a hang glider. Coulda gone higher but my friends said I was slurring my speech. And I hadn't started drinkin yet (for the day).
