Do we need to start a new campaign? Keep the wetbacks out of the forest. Let us grow our own.

Pot smoking; good or bad?.......maybe WE should decide, and not the Government........Locked up like an animal for years for growing a weed?......please....(This all started with Kennedys.......smoking pot in the White house with movie stars......maybe we should have locked JFK up in prison;.....maybe he would get chummed in the shower;...but not shot in the head.....)
Also,...from everything I have ever read;...experimenting with pot as a teenager is a VERY COMMOM and NORMAL thing;......why then, are teens treated as criminals by our schools and our courts if they experiment with pot, which is supposed to be a normal thing that most ALL teens do?.....I believe it's ABNORMAL NOT to experiment with pot........Kick kids OUT of school if they are high or have pot.........What message are we telling kids?......that they are fuk-ups for doing something that G. Bush, Bill Clinton, (Don't forget JFK...)...and most NORMAL human being do sometime in their lives? It's pathetic......I'm sorry. As an educator, my job is to HELP kids;....not squish them like bugs. Zero tolerance policies at school suck;.......

A. Crowley;......Here's a bit about my brother;...he's an awesome guy;...a great thinker, creative, motivated, intelligent, and has alwyas been anti-gov.......con. objector for VietNam, not into taxes, regulations, laws, restrictions, etc....anyways.....When he got busted for pot, he was living on a very small island in the San Juans in Wa. state.....only 75 people lived on the island;...almost all were growing pot.......about 40 people got busted....most got a few months in state jail;...my brother got a couple years in Fed. Pen....(He had the most pot, and he got everyone started growing...I believe...). When the Feds busted him, that had a S.W.A. T. team flown in to his residence, faces painted in camo.....automatic weapons with red laser-beam scopes pointed at my brother' head, TWO medi-vac teams on boats nearby in case their was a "gun-battle".......basically, a small army to bust my brother and his girlfriend.......they had NO weapons, boobie-traps, pittbulls, ....nothing;.......they don't even smoke pot;....just grow it ......(Not anymore....)...It was a sad deal for my Mom and Dad and our whole family to go through.......messed up..........for growing weeds........He also got his house, his land, his boat, and most of his belongings taken from him by our gov..........and then look at all the alcohol related car wrecks.......what the fuk.....

Oh...my brother was busted maybe 10 years ago;....at the time , it was the biggest pot bust in Wa. state history....he had over 1 million $ in pot (street value), I believe. There was a big article about the whole mess in L. A. Times magazine awhile back....cover story. I went to visit him in Prison up near Portland , Oregon. (On the way, had to stop off at Beacon Rock, Rocky Point, Ft. Ross State Park, Smith, Skinner Butte, etc.....for a few climbs...made a little road trip of the whole shebang......) I don't know;....still pisses me off just thinking about it....I know pot is "bad for your health" and alot of kids get in trouble with it....but I still don't think it's our government's place to butt into individual human's choices about stuff that really doesn't hurt anyone else........I think in the future, we will look back at today's laws about this stuff and just shake our heads as if we are still in the "dark ages." it's a shame....I have 3 kids of my own;...I NEVER want to see them locked up in jail;...especially for something so lame, and something that our society is calling "normal" for everyone to experiment with........It was really really hard on my parents....expensive too, all the days in court, and lawyers, and trips up to Seattle for my parents....and the worrying and my Mom crying and stuff.......it sucked......AND ...at first, it looked like he was gonna get 20 YEARS in prison!......THAT would make ANY parent cry....

Damn Irish Catholics......(Today, my brother lives in Julian near San Diego, and works part-time at a nursery selling plants (legal) in Fallbrook, does stonework (not stoned work) for rich people around North County, and is a tour guide for an old gold mine for tourists on the week-ends in Julian.......He used to do cartoons (weekly) for the Julian paper....he also has built about 15 homes;...he's a really great an interesting fellow.......not the sort of guy that deserves to be locked up.....)

I agree with brian. Ive stumbled on some old cultivation sites. And there is a lot of crap left behind. Apparently all dope smokers arent environmentally with it. Its about turning profit. Pure and simple.
Luckily for the growers there are all too many people addicted to drugs out there.Cant imagine having to wake up and pack a bowl just to get through the day. Its kind of sad.

hen I was on ski patrol at Mt. Baldy back in the late and mid 90's I struck up a conversation with a lift operator. He said he had a pot farm in a canyon above Azusa. He told me where it was but told me I was best not to head up there. He had traps set and said he carried a gun when he was working the farm.
I too have nothing against the user but these farmers are dangerous and will and do kill to keep folks off the property.
Another incident that struck close to home was a rafter on the Tuolumne River who was shot by a over zealous farmer.

Reality is for people who can't handle drugs. (For the record; pot makes you climb better. It's a known fact).

Pot farms are oftentimes boobytrapped, and guarded under heavy firepower;........$ and the thought of getting put in jail make these farms very dangerous....razor wires, pits to fall in with spikes, glass, nails, trip wires, ...ever more creative stuff like you see on those Viet Nam movies......nasty business......(This all started with the ......oh never mind...)

in norcal you watch it and most who venture into the woods are forewarned about off trail enterprise. Until this bust, it nvr occured to me to be weary when scrambling around these drainages. nice getaway. i've seen dripline, but it didn't click. adios to that chit---I vote "not in my backyard."

Khanom,
Your statements are irrelevant to the fact that the many of these farmers are just bad people. The fact that they would set traps and be willing to kill or injure another human for a plant is mind blowing. Dont turn it around and blame it on pot's legality. The farmers who would do harm or kill are simply evil.

Seems to be happening everywhere on a more frequent basis. A couple of months ago a ranger stumbled across an 'immigrant farmer' in the Los Gatos hills. Ranger got shot in the leg. I think they did eventually nab the a-hole though.
"They just come here to do work Americans won't do". Yeah, that's some work.

I'm not against pot, hell legalize it for all I care. It would resolve a lot of issues.
The thing is, having a bunch of cartel linked mexican nationals with shot guns in our hills is a big deal that pisses me off. I like heading into the little travelled canyons of the East Side. The two mile long Shepard creek farm was on the approach to Williamson.
Sheriff types say that once these guys come, they come back every year even if they get busted becuase there is still money in it and the farmers are pawns who just get deported.

Lib's are at least tolerable, and quite fun to debate with. Ya know?
Edit: I gotta go drink some beer at our company picnic for a while with all the freakin lib software engineers. They do throw a mean frisbee, though...should be cool. See ya in a while.

You left out this option:

Once when I was a smokejumber we got a call from the Klamath NF in the middle of a long spell without lightning, which is unusual. Five of us jumped this fire in the middle of nowhere. Turned out it was a farm that had just been harvested and the guys didn't put out their campfire! It was really extensive, tiered on a slope and plumbed using a spring and drip irrigation stuff. We had to tell the law enforcement types and a bunch of cops had to hump their fat asses up the mountain side in the blazing sun. A couple of them looked they were about to have a stroke by the time they got there.

Khanom,
It's the "leave them alone" attitude that bothers me.
They are impacting the environment.
They use dangerous pesticides.
Haul tons of garbage into the wilderness.
Set human traps.
Shoot people.
Will not hesitate to kill people.
Are these the kind of people you want to run into on the aprouch to a climb?
Hell, OHV users are lightweights compared to these guys.
