Stahlbro, try it everytime I gotta do that drive...but it would be a blast in a suitable car, no rangers....we could get Werner to fly the copter and radio down car alerts...better yet, closed course.

Ron, closed course would be so good. Tom Burke and I were usually doing it @ 1am anyway ;-)

A beer belly helps pull one in :)

Actually I can drink beer still IF.....I give up cheese and fried foods. I choose beer. Not eating out has really helped me. Portion sizes can be stupid. My dear old Mom pretty much had it nailed when she said getting old sucks ………………

Be cool to see you again Mal......we need to gravitate to a climber congregation, if we knew someone who could cater an event like that ;)

I once went to a men's gathering that featured the poet William Stafford. Michael Meade asked if it was true that Bill wrote a poem every day and he replied that "yes, he did". "But what happens if it just isn't working on a particular day" Meade continued. "Well then I just lower my standards."
Get more out of less, man. Easy climbing is fun. Do enough of it and you will lose weight the old fashioned way.
Back when you were active you likely passed over hundreds of moderate routes that would be truly enjoyable now.

You can eat and drink 90% as well as you do now for half the calories. I quit drinking booze and eating dumb sh#t and increased mountain bike time and I'm down 30 something pounds since Jan. 1st and it's still coming off. No ketopaleobreatharian bullsh#t. At 51, I feel great. I had almost accepted that feeling like sh#t was part of getting old. Glad for almost.

One of my favorite Donini quotes - from a man who knows - is this:

"You can party and climb until you are 60 - then you have to choose one."

I bowled an 87 the other day and beat an 11 year old! It came down to the last ball. We tried to use the rails, but we were over 10, so they wouldn’t let us.

I’m pretty sure I went over the hill a while ago.

Still, life is good. Take your victories where you can get them.

You could go climbing with me tomorrow nothing is too easy for me guaranteed. Hope all is well Malcolm definitely wanted to touch base before I left. I have been talking to Mike about having Paradox come up to Bozeman. Would love to have you show me how to fish some bigger rivers we will be living very close to the Gallatin.

Another thread that provides much needed smiles and laughter! Who said the campfire is a has been?

Ricky, so laughing, you and Gerry were at my 64, 6 years ago. Someone sang that song around the TPR campfire.

Don't use Donini as a role model....just don't! :) You'll die trying.

Mal, do you really want advice or a smile and a "Dude, we all struggle, but we're still kicking it one way or another.

Gomez, I bet me and my van from the Mobile to TPR as winners every time.

Edit: Jamatt, I hope at 51 you feel great! I didn't really start climbing until I was 59. ;)

I eat 80% carbs and weigh 160 at 6'1''.

Yer bragging about that? I looked like I just escaped Auschwitz with those dimensions.

Edit: Just kidding but it's true

Yeah Lynnie, you’ve done that drive a few times! I like driving it real early in the morning....if I’m doing 70-80 at the green gate at the bottom, I can just keep the gas pedal steady pressure ALL the way up to the turn to Saddlebag, never push, never lift. Can’t wait for the pass to open, will venture up either east or westside end of month. Going to see Lozano this Saturday!

Too fat to climb is a little weak.

Throw your back out or tear your knee up and then you don't have to worry about it anymore.

I’m in my 60s too. I’m a little fat but climbing still seems to work OK. It’s a happy medium.
Take care!
