Gun rights advocates frequently say we just need to enforce existing laws. Well, this is a perfect case in point. They should be advocating that this person be punished.

This is what I’m looking for.
No “Don’t politicize this”
No “It’s too soon”
No “This is just an excuse to go after gun owners”

Just once I’d like to see a contingent of actual responsible gun owners stand up and advocate for punishment to send a message in a clear cut case like this.

Tradmanclimbs, you’ve done this admirably, I just wish it wasn’t limited to a token 1 or 2 individuals every time something like this happened.

Picnic areas in red states...gentrification is inexorable. I thought that they just had meth labs, opiod clinics and evangelical super churches.

I remember several newspaper articles in the Lewiston (Idaho) Morning Tribune on a picnic area shooting back in the early 1980's.

It was about this time of year & hunting season had started. A Lewiston woman was sitting in her lawn chair, next to a table & car, in an Idaho picnic area, while her husband was out hunting.

Blam!

She was on the ground in extreme pain. She heard footsteps & as she was "bleeding-out" a friend from her neighborhood came into her vision. He looked down at her with total horror & whispered, "oh my God, I'm so sorry."

Then he left.

The woman's husband showed up in time to stauch her bleeding & she was "life-flighted" to safety.

The woman & her husband declined to file criminal charges, but won a civil lawsuit to cover her medical costs.

I've worn orange ever since, during Idaho's extended fall hunting season.

And of course, I always have a pistol on my picnic table.

think you might need to switch out that bottle of wine for a suitcase of Bud light if you want to have a real redneck picknic ;)

It wasn't a picnic area.

In the late 1980's, pre Heidi, I hiked to a high alpine lake in Idaho with two female buddies.

Ann got up up the next morning & walked well out of camp for her morning pee.

At the end of the pee, she happened to look around & noticed a guy in full camo, including face paint, squatting in a willow about 10 feet from her.

She was very proud that she was able to wish the bow-hunter a good morning, before trotting back to our camp.

He never said anything.

My aunt came to my farm to help my cousin with fly fishing. She heard a turkey calling and snuck around to see it. Ended up getting called in to some poacher that was calling. Haha. She whispered "sorry" to the poacher and backed out.

Makes me laugh the poacher must be a good caller! Haha

My bro-in-law is/was a bow hunter

He tells me how encountered in the red state of Catalina Island an Asian gentleman {I don't think they refer to themselves as gooks any more} who described spending four days in a tree on the isle.

Hunting

Bro asked

Did you get anything

The hunter gave him the peace sign and said "twobuk"

Nobody thought to ask how many peeing women he saw

Bruce Utah Phillips is rumored to have told it in his shows

Why?

Ya got me

Bruce passed away

not a picnic area per se, but a popular ridgetop dirt-roadside USFS campsite in Wyo, hunting season not-so-strangely coinciding. the funny thing was that the rest of the campsite was clean, like clean to the microtrash level, and empty of the folks what done it.

Just once I’d like to see a contingent of actual responsible gun owners stand up and advocate for punishment to send a message in a clear cut case like this.

It happens more often than you think, just don't expect to hear about it in the news. It doesn't fit the narrative.

I've been going to ranges and associating with gun owners for 30+ years. A lot of my friends are gun owners. Some feel the need for self defense, some hunt, some compete, and some shoot for the fun of it. I can't think of one, among them all of them, who would not like to see that shooter punished.

Of course there was an uproar, including NRA, to punish the gun store owner who sold John Lee Malvo his rifle (under the counter.) The consensus among gun owners was "throw away the key." The guy didn't see a day in the slammer, despite the fact that he sold a gun illegally to a mass killer. He lost his FFL, but he still works in the same building.

So, what about a call for enforcing existing laws is so hard to understand?

Speaking of red states: my only question is about grammar and spelling. What the heck is it about Trump's base? Terrible grammar, terrible spelling, and equally intense--if not greater--passion.
