You should turn off Fox, in fact, shoot your TV and go climbing. What nonsense.

I don't listen to Fox, but I have a deal for you "crankster" : I'll turn off Fox if you turn off NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, and NPR, and quit reading the NY Times.

It doesn't matter what little egghead twit coined the term, it's how and when , and what context it's been used in. All of a sudden "vortex" this and "vortex" that
Get outta here.

Ah no, the polar vortex is a real thing even if it hasn't previously made Fox News and been blamed by Rush Limbaugh on liberals. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_vortex

There's history of research on this topic ranging from paleoclimatology such as the bimodal behavior of northern climate shown by the Greenland Ice Sheet cores -- which could be described as stages when the polar circulation intensity is very high, kind of like Jupiter, or much weaker like today's meandering jet strea,

Also observed on other planets such as Jupiter (of course), Saturn, Mars and Venus.

Nice try at the guilt by association. Won't work
It's not Fox or Limbaugh that's been reporting it---it's the mainstream media made up of people who think like you. They suddenly needed a buzz term to cover their asses.

Now you are claiming that the term is somehow magically an everyday occurrence in the reporting of weather when 99% of the public have never heard the term---and will probably never hear again once it's usefulness is over for the ass-coverers.

I noticed this phenomenon after 9/11. GWB said the word "resolve" in a speach and suddenly it was everywhere for a couple years. Especially anyone that felt they were important had to use the word. Now no one says "resolve"in any more, like normal.

Changing the subject, has anyone watched the show "brain games"? Shows how easily you can be manipulated if you arent paying attention. And it works VERY well. Proof is in the fact we keep voting for republicans and democrats.

Another buzz word for a while was,

"Gravitas"

Who the hell ever uses that unless you are a talking head on the boob tube?

In Montana when it gets sub Zero, we call the phenomenon "Alberta Clipper" or Canadian/Arctic air mass driven--happens anywhere from 1-6 times per year here, and is normal as rain on the plain...

So whats your problem with it again Ward? Oh yeah.... communist conspiracy.

No not a conspiracy, just business as usual in the propaganda mills of NBC, CBS, CNN, NPR, NY Times and wherever else you ass-coverers need to get your "news" and your "information"
Stick with this video, remember you 60s types use to to be opposed to the status quo before you gained control of it. Now anyone who doesn't agree with you is a "conspiracy theorist" lol

Meanwhile, all time recorded HEAT RECORDS are being set across Australia

The heat increased across Western Australia late in December before moving into South Australia and eventually rose across parts of Queensland and New South Wales in early January.

The heat peaked across Queensland on Jan. 3, which became the hottest day on record in Queensland, according to the Australia Bureau of Meteorology.

The heat wave also had deadly impacts on the wildlife of Queensland as reports indicate as many as 100,000 bats have died from the heat, according to the RSPCA.
The highest temperature that was reported during the heat wave was 49.3 degrees on Jan. 2 in Moomba, South Australia. This temperature fell just short of the heat experienced in January of 2013.

The Bureau of Meteorology also reported that 34 locations in Australia set all-time high temperature records between Dec. 30 and Jan. 4.
While the heat has relaxed across most of Australia, heat is building once again across much of Western Australia and will reach Perth by the weekend.

High temperatures in Perth are expected to reach and perhaps exceed 40 C (104 F).

Hey, Weird Trotter, this tiresome phrase, endlessly repeated by your hero from Alaska and the dopes on Fox...it ran its course in '08, don't you think?

This threads premise is really stupid, no offense to the author. You people have to turn off that moronic talk radio.

I'm still trying to figure out why I shouldn't be listening to NPR, the most intelligent voice in news. What, I'm supposed to tune into the whacked world of cable tv news? Blondes on Fox ranting like screeching wildebeests at a dry waterhole? Or talk radio goons whining all day to cranky, old white men in pickup trucks? Have you gone mad?
