I'm amazed at how many people believe there was a Jesus. There is no historical evidence that he ever existed. But then again people fell for Joe Smith and L Ron Hubberd's bullshit too.

Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed.
...but convincing myself there's no substance in the non -christian writings of antiquity, whether the narratives of Christ be central or peripheral, I can thereafter deny god-knows-how-many historical figures.
But cynics are seldom impressed by "proofs" that don't tip them out of bed anyway. That rang home when I crusaded for FloJo's exceptional records. The cynic in us attributes myth or selfish motives to all things wonderous and praiseworthy ...

Is there one roman historian that mentions Jesus in any historical text? I don't believe so. Just because a story keeps getting past down doesn't make it fact. It's about as probable as Camalot.

How many Americans (or Euros, for that matter) would worship a brown person?
Well, I for one most certainly bow down to the mighty Samuel L. Jackson.

Alexander the Great wasn't "middle-eastern" but there's controversy about his hair color.
Most Greek/Macedonians have dark hair so...isn't it logical to assume he likely had dark hair?
Most ancient accounts give him curly, shoulder-length blonde hair and fair skin. Plutarch claimed his skin was fair with a "ruddy tinge". One reconstructed ancient mural accords him red hair.
The Mosaic of Pompey was created 300 years after Alexaders death and then being based on a painting by Apelles. Hmmm...
"Great hair color, Alex!"

This gentleman went by the title of Ramses II, Pharoah of Egypt.
His red hair, here, is from using henna to cover the gray in his mature years. But examination of hair roots under microscope show his hair was naturally auburn red.
Genghis Kahn was said to have red hair. Uhhh...Please don't call him "Ginger"!

It would be thought provoking to be sure... the baby Jesus would make you think that you might gut her pregnant. .. but then you would realize that he was supposedly a virgin birth and she will probably get pregnant either way so you should just go for it. ..

I second eKat's recommendation of Karen Armstrong's a History of God. Very interesting book about the three major monotheistic traditions. She also writes about other religions as well.
Genghis Kahn was said to have red hair. Uhhh...Please don't call him "Ginger"!
And definitely don't call him Gilligan! Had a bad experience with that in a past life!
