Bravo, Ouch!
But really...if we count 50-somethings,
won't the list get awfully cluttered?

A while back there was either a BD or Patagonia ad in a climbing rag with a guy atleast mid 60s leading illusion dweller in JT. He was wearing hand jammies, but still, 10b at that age is damn impressive.

That Illusion Dweller pic was Stimson Bullitt (sp?), now 86 according to Flouride. See above.

Pics of Allen Steck on the Mace in Sedona at the tender age of 69 years. He's 80 this week, I believe, and still climbing 10's. And one hell of an amazing guy!

What about TM Herbert. A few years ago he came soloing by me while I was waiting in the Que on the great white book and when we see him at the leap he looks damn good. Last time I saw him, he still climbed better then I ever did.

a tip to the sub-old that live in Colorado and like the snow;
at age 50, you can join the over the hill gang (or something like that) and get a 5 mtn season pass (Vail, the beav, breck, a-basin, keystone,& now includes heavenly, also, I think) no blackout dates, for $350! *2004 price

Thanks, May have to look into that, Know when, x-actly?
When they played at those fish parties @ big noses, it was the highlight of the trade show, IMO.

(Bridwell was there, so we're still on topic)

Heh, Fred Beckey leading 5.10 sport just a year or two ago. Not my photo, pilfered from Pax up in WA if I recall correctly.

ShortTimer noted: "Just ask Mo if he *thinks* he is old?"

LOL, he read my post and the next thing I know he has me on the horn, going off about him being a spring chicken and all. So ok, maybe the 50s are not so old these days (to us who have entered that realm). But back when I was in my 20s, 50+ sure tipped the scales as being on the old side of life.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are a whole bunch of folks - many of them currently participating at ST, who are cranking in their 70s in, say, 20-25 years.

What about that pic in the winter Patagonia catalog of the two 70-something women at EPC that said they were doing 12's down there? Ben Moon took the shot of them checking the topo, I wonder if anyone shot them climbing.

Bob Kamps - 72 (1933-2005) He was amazing. Mr. Footwork and a great guy all around. Climbing mid 5.11's at 72 years young. He is missed by many. (www.bobkamps.com)

Not-So-Old guys who rip:

Jim Wilson - 56 (up to 5.12, trad and sport)
Mike Waugh - 49? (5.13? unlimited strength and technique)
Jan Mc Collum - mid 50's? (up to 5.12, thin face master)
Rich Grigsby - mid 50's? (5.12+, makes almost everything look easy)

I am sure that I've missed a few.
