What kind of dog is it?
If it's a Rott I'd think twice, if it's a Jack Russell I'd think once, if it was shiatsu (sp?) I wouldn't even think.
Tom, with justice the way it is nowadays (and not only in America) with a good lawyer the man would get off.
Also, there's a chance that you'd get convicted of manslaughter or murder if you took the man out, so it looks like curtains for the dog. But I'd prefer taking the man out, as his intentions would no doubt be evil. Unless there are evil dogs (Cujo?)
In the Boy Scouts we had a sick (and I don’t mean that in the good way) Scoutmaster (temporary) who was an uncle of one of the boys. He was in the Army and one night at Camp Wolfeboro (near Arnold) around the campfire he was telling/showing us ways to kill a man with a knife and other ‘tools’. He also said that if a dog attacked shove your fist all the way down the dog’s throat and just grab something, anything, and just pull it out as fast as you can.
Sick, I mean teaching 11-14 year olds that stuff is mental.

Why are you all so frightened of a 100 pound dog? I mean don't most of you guys weigh nearly TWICE what the dog does? You'd have to be some kind of wuss to lose to an opponent who weighs half what you do.
ha! ha!

You never know what you're going to do until you're in the thick of it.
You can't anticipate how all the many factors will bear on you and how you'll react. Thinking you'll make a rational decision faced with a situation like that is silly.
Peace

people are sometimes frightened by our dog since she is tall and black, but she doesn't top 50 pounds, her bark makes her sound like she is pushing 100 though.
i think the difference is not in the absolute weight of the dog its the fact that of the 100 pounds of dog, what percent is muscle? probably way more than any human with a jaw strength to boot.

HOLDEN
You're in a desert, walking along
in the sand when all of a sudden
you look down and see a...
LEON
What one?
It was a timid interruption, hardly audible.
HOLDEN
What?
LEON
What desert?
HOLDEN
Doesn't make any difference what
desert -- it's completely
hypothetical.
LEON
But how come I'd be there?
HOLDEN
Maybe you're fed up, maybe you
want to be by yourself -- who
knows. So you look down and
see a tortoise. It's crawling
towards you...
LEON
A tortoise. What's that?
HOLDEN
Know what a turtle is?
LEON
Of course.
HOLDEN
Same thing.
LEON
I never seen a turtle.
He sees Holden's patience is wearing thin.
LEON
But I understand what you mean.
HOLDEN
You reach down and flip the
tortoise over on its back, Leon.
Keeping an eye on his subject, Holden notes the dials
in the Voight-Kampff. One of the needles quivers
slightly.
LEON
You make these questions, Mr.
Holden, or they write 'em down
for you?
Disregarding the question, Holden continues, picking
up the pace.
HOLDEN
The tortoise lays on its back,
its belly baking in the hot sun,
beating its legs trying to turn
itself over. But it can't. Not
without your help. But you're
not helping.
Leon's upper lip is quivering.
LEON
Whatcha mean, I'm not helping?
HOLDEN
I mean you're not helping!
Why is that, Leon?

This is America! You'd film both killings and sell the tape to the highest bidder.

"He also said that if a dog attacked shove your fist all the way down the dog’s throat and just grab something, anything, and just pull it out as fast as you can."
I've heard that one too. So the real solution is shove your fist ALL the way down the dog's throat and out the back, grab the guy by the neck and pull him thru the dog. The dog will be dead and the guy will sausaged up in the dog's rectum.
"people are sometimes frightened by our dog since she is tall and black"
Oh and if she's a white dog it's no problem? Isn't that breedist?

This is a trick question. It appears to be a method of outing PETA moles.

totally breedist. in fact this one person who sometimes goes to the dog park by us won't let her dog play with her since she is a mixed breed and not pure.
but i am sure you can scientifically show that more people are scared of a big black dog then say a golden retriever or some small dog like a cavalier king charles.
