In the 70's in Seattle there was a religious cult that got busted when one
of the members died. No law against that but then they stuffed her in a
closet and prayed like there was no tomorrow for her to come back. After
a month the neighbors started complaining. Turns out that part of their
'prayer ritual' was huffing vast quantities of toluene.

Mixed xylenes are no better (if not worse?) for you.

It's the single best item at the Depot. FRickin' Depot, anyway.

Since I use plasti-dip only occasionally and for small jobs, it is nice to have a can of it ready to go. As suggested above I always put a couple layers of aluminum foil over the opening and under the plastic cap. Then I put the can in the deep freeze. When I want to use it, I have to let it thaw out for an hour, but the same can has stayed usable for many years. I do the same with a big tube of aquaseal, to keep it from hardening. It has not hardened yet after several years of storage and occasional use.

I have only one use for Plasti-Dip: I paint it onto the foam padding in my whitewater kayak cockpit (seat and hip pads).

What's the purpose of doing this?

Saves wear and tear on biners, friendlier to webbing.
