I guess zero would be something,as it is assigned a value. Maybe infinite is all in perception, like assigning nothing a number, 0. If it is infinite, than all possible realties could be represented, because of the limitlessness. I can't conceive of it, at least on a practical scale.

Infinite, unless you are a quibbler.

As a proof: drink wine, until every star becomes two stars.

Also! Whaz up with that Southern Cross Schist?

Never saw it (that I know of) in 10 days in the Bariloche area?

If it is finite what else is there? If it is infinite.....just what does that mean?

Fritz, Angela and I are getting to San Pedro de Atacama tomorrow. I have heard tales of an "infinite" number of cracks there....we shall see.

If it is infinite it dictates a release of all preconceptions and demands that you surrender to the whims of chance.

I'm curious how does the finite become infinite? How does that happen?

Your list STARTS somewhere, ergo it is not infinite.

Intuition is not of great use on the subject of the infinite. Unless the list has an end, it is infinite. Maybe you are thinking of a different infinite, though.

Space is incredibly inconceivably large.

Whenever we look we just see more of it.

BITD when I had time to think about these things, the concept of infinite time and space were relevant and fascinating to think about.

Now, not so much so. Just trying to survive today. Maybe that is short side thinking.

you guys need start thinking in terms of curved spacetime if you want to get a handle on the difference between an infinite and finite universe. Not curved surfaces in a universe, curved spacetime that is the universe.

Nothing becomes infinite.

Infinity just is.

What's the currently accepted theory? Is space expanding or in stasis?

Your list started at 1 and ended at 3. Not infinite, ellipses aside.

Yah, I think I saw this in Pogo once, too.

Alright Mr. Smartypants, what is the biggest integer?

If you allow that the entire universe, whatever that is, actually only exists within a consciousness that is beyond space and time, how can it not be infinite? Eternity is not just an infinitely long time but an existence beyond time

WHich is beyond the conceiving power of the mind

Study mathematical analysis to become familiar with infinite processes. After a while it's all in a day's work! Mathematical set theory will give you a (somewhat disorienting)feeling for the various infinities.

Regarding cosmology though, isn't there a theory that the universe "expands" by creating space (and time?) in the process?

David St. Hubbins: Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you.

Mr. Donini, I've come to expect this kind of bewildering question from our brooding scientist, however a man of your stature should know better.
