BHO's top down approach has failed every time it has been tried.

The definitive analysis from 1850

He's an ideologue surrounded by kindred foolish spirits. Nothing will change till he's gone

Only 16 or so months until the American economic engine is unleashed.

Donini nails it!

Face it you whiney repugs you've got five more years of Obama and in spite of how you hold him back he still kicks ass!

That's the truth but I'm really posting here to say hi to my stalker who would not otherwise be seen on a thread as possibly highbrow as this one could have been.

Hi Pat, it's comforting to know you're keeping an eye on me!

Would any of you care to explain to us the error of Bastiat's ways?

Keynesian economics is in the same class as ptolemaic astrophysics, alchemy, extraterrestrial moon creatures and forest spirits.

No wonder Klimmer is a disciple.

Amazing! Democrats and Republicans Agree!

90% of Republicans Prefer Socialist Country's Wealth Distribution!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x614954

When Americans are given clear information about the wealth distribution in the U.S., they don't like it. It's obscene that the wealthiest 20% own 84% of this country while the bottom 40% only have less than 1%.
Across the country programs for the poor, elderly and disabled are being cut. Tuition is being raised. Monies for local governments have been cut but those Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest can't be touched - outrageous!!!
And today's news showed that Sweden still surpassed the U.S. in having a competitive economy - Sweden is #3 and the U.S. is #5. (from the World Economic Forum)
Things have to change!!!!!!!!!!!

TGT is right on target. Bastiat's article is bombproof.

Based on his definitions, Paul Krugman is one of the World's worst economists, simply because his opinions are so clouded by politics. He actually believes that if an alien race comes down and tries to destroy us the military buildup will give our economy the boost it needs to get us out of the recession. I am not making this up, I heard him say this on youtube.

And today's news showed that Sweden still surpassed the U.S. in having a competitive economy - Sweden is #3 and the U.S. is #5. (from the World Economic Forum)

Interestingly, Sweden and Norway have much LESS progressive tax systems than the U.S., i.e., the wealthy pay a smaller percentage of their earnings and the poorer pay a higher percentage:

//
The United States has one of the most progressive tax systems in the world, and has become much more progressive in the past 30 years, says Richard Rahn, a senior fellow with the Cato Institute.

* The top 1 percent of taxpayers pay 38 percent of all the income taxes despite having just 20 percent of the income.
* The top 10 percent of taxpayers pay 70 percent of the income tax while having just 46 percent of the income.
* At the other end, the bottom 50 percent of taxpayers pay just 2.7 percent of the income tax while having 13 percent of the income.

This has resulted in a situation in which a relatively small minority of taxpayers pay the bulk of the taxes, while most American pay little or no income tax. This is causing an increasing disconnect between benefits from government and what most citizens pay for. One result is a greater polarization in the political realm where a majority of citizens increasingly demand more government benefits for which they want others to pay.

The Swedes were on this same destructive path, but they reversed course over the last couple of decades and made their tax system far less progressive, even though their tax rates at all levels are above most of those in the United States. The result has been a tempering of demand for new government services as people at all income levels realize they will be the ones paying for those services and not some mythical "rich" person. The side benefit is that Sweden, as a result of tax and other reforms, now has one of the highest economic growth rates in the world, says Rahn.//

Very true LEB. As my Dad says, "once the majority realizes it can vote itself benefits at the expense of the minority, the game is all over."

If 20 - 30 years ago (starting in the 80s) the Republican Party would've brought into its fiscally conservative "narrative" ecology or ecological balance ("Nature's Way") in lieu of God and Christianity ("God's Way"), then today it would have more "purchase" with more independents.

But, alas, it didn't so it doesn't.

Good essay on Obama's plan by Peter Schiff:

http://www.europac.net/commentaries/more_same_0

He makes a great point on Social Security. It is astounding to me that the Government has raided every cent from the Social Security Trust fund and replaced it with Treasury Bonds (I.O.U.s), and then continues to put it in the "Asset" column! Sort of reminds me of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber:

Lloyd: Listen, Mr. Samsonite, about the briefcase, my friend Harry and I have every intention of fully reimbursing you.
Nicholas Andre: Open it up. Open it up!
Lloyd: [Motioning to Mary] Go ahead, open it up. Do what he says. Hurry.
Nicholas Andre: What is this? What is this? Where's all the money?
Lloyd: That's as good as money, sir. Those are I.O.U.'s. Go ahead and add it up, every cent's accounted for. Look, see this? That's a car. 275 thou. Might wanna hang onto that one.

I found Rick Perry pretty unimpressive in the last debate, but I give him lots of credit for sticking to his guns on his statement about Social Security.

Dream on Republicans...Sorry Obama hasn't been able to clean up the mess your party created but your party has blocked just about every meaningful piece of legislation that Obama has offered..Then you snibble and whine that nothing is being accomplished with a Democrat in office....Americans are pretty stupid but not stupid enough to vote in another Republican President..Dream on..

Rotting,

Barry,Harry and Nancy controlled all three branches for the first two years.

They could collectively not even propose a budget let alone bring one to a vote.

Total incompetence!

Unfortunately not EVERY piece. Obamacare was forced through, that is another disaster in the making.

TGT..Yeah the dems. have some issues but 2 years isn't a very long time to pull the country out of a recession....On a positive note , we have national health care thanks to Obama's dilligence.. National health care is something your party never had the courage to enact only because it didn't serve their corporate masters the AMA , Big Pharma , and the insurance lobby..
