It's not legal Riley, why is it not legal? You are allowed to keep a trout when you fish, why are all aquatic mammals regardless of species and population data the biggest no in life. I've captured dolphins in Honduras for the government. Crazy scary I imagine.

There are rare critters out there, but to create a ban on a whole family of species seems uneducated.

And yes, I prefer Mtn Plover or green turtle, but dolphin are a fine meat (very light colored but fishy).

I prefer seaturtle

Curious if you could name the species of dolphin you worry about?

Why Dolphins? I sign petitions everyday to try to save all sorts of animals.
I call my congressmen.I write my representatives.
Dolphins and Whales are extremely smart and playful.
If you have ever been around one in the water you would be amazed.
The slaughter starts in Japan starts in September so the more people who sign by then the better chance of stopping it.
Watch the movie "The Cove".

Yes, many species of mammal are hunted, and some live in the sea. Why blanket all sea-going mammals as untouchable?

They kill these critters in Japan but why are you still worried about species as of now being harvested in manageable numbers?

I feel it can be done right. The stigma behind killing any marine mammal is deep, but why?

Giving native canadians the right to kill bowhead whales doesn't make full sense, but what is wrong with harvesting species that most scientist agree are viable (Japanese fishing derby you started with)?

Nothing like bringing home some meat. take it easy and actually think about the world, it is more complicated than it looks, trust me.

Well Silver,
I believe that eating dolphins and whales may have been part of their culture as has it been with lots of other cultures around the world and they have abandoned it. partly because whales are endangered. Japan would like to take whales off the endangered species list because there are over 30,000 humpback whales now.

How would you feel if their were 30,000 people left on the planet?

However, as I mentioned earlier eating dolphins and whales is not safe for humans.
There is over 10 times the amount of mercury that is safe for human consumption.

If you watch the movie You would see that these few men who are killing the dolphins are enjoying it. They mention in the film how great it would be to kill a whale too.

They were offered the same money they would make killing the dolphins to let them go and they refused.

Dolphins have the same size brain as humans. They may even be smarter than us.
People are always saying how they are looking for intelligent life in the universe.
I say look in the ocean.

I still think if you slow roast the locker, I bet that meat would just fall right off the bone.

Here's one of countless stories of dolphins rescuing people, going back for thousands of years:

Dolphins save surfer from becoming shark’s bait
A pod of bottlenose dolphins helped protect the severely injured boarder

By Mike Celizic

Surfer Todd Endris needed a miracle. The shark — a monster great white that came out of nowhere — had hit him three times, peeling the skin off his back and mauling his right leg to the bone.

That’s when a pod of bottlenose dolphins intervened, forming a protective ring around Endris, allowing him to get to shore, where quick first aid provided by a friend saved his life.

If you want dolphins around to save your ass when you're in the water, you need to work to stop the slaughter of these amazingly friendly animals.

It's all about sovereignty. The change in diet and behavior has to come from the Japanese themselves. It would be like movements and petitions in India to get us to stop eating hamburgers. It would be like Israel citizens signing petitions to get us to stop eating bacon. Yes the way the dolphins are harvested is brutal but have you ever seen a slaughter house in action?

Heyzues,

Flippers trainer is the one who has started this uproar and who has dedicated his life to saving these dolphins from being taken into captivity and the ones not picked being slaughtered.

According to him Flipper committed suicide in his arms because she was depressed from being in captivity.

Meet K-Dog, the mine-hunter.

I love dolphins. Very smart and very interactive with humans. Kinda like the labradors of the sea. Kind, gentle, and willing helpers.

Most of Japan has no idea that this is going on.
They interview people in Tokyo during the movie and the majority had no idea dolphins were being killed.

It only takes about 30 seconds out of your life to sign the petition.

Killing in the name of tradition is just an excuse to keep on behaving like barbarians. Quote: “ The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” ... Mahatma Ghandi

Bump.

There are lots of complicated problems out there. This one--not so complicated. This slaughter is illegal. The dolphin meat being sold as something else is so mercury rich it's dangerous to eat.
