Um. I like it the way it is.
Fun to sort through the crap. Kinda like reading a mag with ads but instead of ads it's weird stuff.
Some are very gray area not cut and dried off-topic.

sorry, just posting out loud.

no to this proposal.
we merely need more latency in climbing threads so they stay on top longer than rant threads and OT stuff (regardless of my own posts for such a separation).
there is something to be said for Dingus' and other's observation that it is the wild and wooly aspect that keeps things a float around here.
so we don't want total segregation, just preferential treatment for climbing topics and TRs (of all mountain hiking and climbing type).
thoughts?

ST is perfect the way it is.
Nothing in this world is perfect, it's an open ended scale.
I think ST is just fine as it is, though.

I will once again lend my vote to this worthy suggestion.

I'd just like to be able to delete threads, from my view, that I do not want to see. And users, there are a few people here that I have never read and do not plan to.

Previously stated but no one paid attention.
There is a way to make everyone happy.
Keep the main page the way it is. With all topics. AND .. do like the trip reports. Add a page for climbing topics only. When you post your new topic, the forum can ask if it is a trip report or a climbing topic. Then it will be posted to both the front page, and in the separate section of either a trip report or a climbing topic. Problem solved.
I have been saying this for some time now. They gave it to us for the trip reports. Now we just need one more section for climbing topics.
The bonus is that the front page stays the same, but for those who only want climbing topics, they can find them easily.
.....
I would also suggest that it might be time to lengthen the front page to 45 threads and add a for sale section.

I like Prod's idea. I could go for an OT forum too.
I know this suggestion comes up a lot, but it seems we keep picking up new wankers who want to gurgle endlessly about stupid sh#t. As someone who only looks at the first page in the forum before surfing away, the forum has less appeal every month.

What about when we successfully hijack a non-climbing thread, and convert it into something better? How should such a thread be categorized? For example, we recently hijacked "truthdweller's" religious rant about "Terror", and did it so well that he deleted the thread. Still, it is possible to redeem some OT threads so that they're about climbing - even religious and conspiracy theory ones.
There's not much hope for the political threads, though, apart from Craig's nice cacti photos.

One forum I've visited has an OT forum that worked wonders for a while.
Then the problem was that all the religious/politics talk got in the way of people talking about music, posting youtube vids and pictures of puppies. The OT peoples united to banish the heathens to yet another forum to ditch politics, religion, and other dramatic opinings. Occasionally one of the trolls from the drama forum tries to wheedle something into the OT forum, but a moderator swiftly moves it back from whence it came, being twice removed from any meaty substance.

Chris is logical and organized.
I'm not trying to appeal to you crazies... this was to Chris (although I got nothing against ya'll).
I'm not suggesting getting rid of your beloved rants and OT threads, just put them in their own sub-forum. That's why they exist. Why don't your OTs belong in their own sub-forum? Gear Reviews have more to do with climbing than that other garbage, but they have their own place.

In a topic related to Mighty's, we would have to add a 'Bodie' category.

If this were true, you would have emailed him directly instead of posting a non-climbing topic to the forum. Heathen & hypocrite!!

I say no new order, but more frequent deleting and whacking.
First post by new user is to create a poligod thread = whack
Post a link to random internet opinion articles to "prove" a point = whack
Once politard threads devolve into the same 5 people calling each other idiots = delete.
Political threads not related to major current event = delete (question as to "major" to be arbitrarily determined)

Pretty soon there'll be actual climbing info in the political threads. Horrors of Horrors.
