Rationale: Great CLIMBING threads get bumped so fast off the front pages because of OT political, religious, rants, etc.
People obviously want the OT stuff, but put it elsewhere so those who DON'T don't have to wade through that other stuff.

Then all the whiny bitches will stop whining (at least 95% of the time) if there is a off topic sub forum category that is separate.
There are some stubborn people holding on here though .......

I have been asking/begging for years - a climbing forum, and an everything else forum. I am tired of wading through all the off-topic stuff just to find a climbing thread.
Very simple: Climbing stuff, and non-climbing stuff.

I think an "OT" tab would be great, if it's easy to implement. What additional moderation would be needed ? Honest errors aren't going to be the end of the world .. sometimes people post TR's that aren't, and route beta which should probably be in the forum.
Currently I just ignore the OT stuff. That works too, but a new OT tab would be better.

Call me a rebel, but Chris is smart and he'll listen.
My rationale was solid, although some of you missed it.
You crazies are bumping solid, climbing related topics for lame rants.
And it isn't hard to discern between them, nobody said it was.
But that wasn't the rationale. And I didn't suggest a moderator. Stick with me this time...

Some of you don't really see clearly.
Give these guys with their off topics a place to go.
Their own special room.
They'll be happy there. (The lurkers clicks will be big time to see what's there, I guarantee it).
You all love seeing a train wreak as long as you're not involved.
Instead you're all control freaks bitching and whining all the time trying to control these off topic people but you won't admit it.

Pluses: the people who enjoy ST hell or whatever will have a place to go and do whatever it is they do. The rest of us will enjoy their absence :)
Minuses: none that I can think of.
The OT'ers will occasionally pop in and pollute the climbing forum, and we will simply ignore them until they go away, exactly as we do now.

There is a way to make everyone happy.
Keep the main page the way it is. With all topics. AND .. do like the trip reports. Add a page for climbing topics only. When you post your new topic, the forum can ask if it is a trip report or a climbing topic. Then it will be posted to both the front page, and in the separate section of either a trip report or a climbing topic. Problem solved.
I have been saying this for some time now. They gave it to us for the trip reports. Now we just need one more section for climbing topics.
The bonus is that the front page stays the same, but for those who only want climbing topics, they can find them easily.

I would also suggest that it might be time to lengthen the front page to 45 threads and add a for sale section.
