I slept last night, but (and don't laugh), I kept
waking up singing in my sleep. No joke. I had songs
running through my brain... I have two nice single
ladies on either side of my apartment. I hope I didn't
keep them awake! Here's another photo, just for fun...
And here's another:
Ok, and this one...

i have been taking melatonin as of late; it helps but i wake up right after dozing off or after an hour or two of sleeping.

I have gotten used to it; but when I get 6-8 hours every once in awhile I feel like I am waking up 25 yrs younger; sleep is such a refresher!

Pat, those last three slides are wonderful.

The ducktail/Bermuda shorts combo is especially good.

And the color still pops on those -- my old slides have faded badly

Hi Tobia.....lynnie here. Nice to read your post. The awesome music posts you shared quite some time ago have been significant in my life. Amazing what music does for the heart, soul and mind. Maybe that would be a sleep enhancer for some. Peace and Joy to you Dude. Once more, thanks, lynnie

Thanks Kerwin. Did you see my little video? You can go to my site and
play it, or should be able to. But those Bermuda shorts. Yes. I got them
for like a dime at some good will store. Barry Bates just sent me an
email saying he had vivid memories of a kid in some checkered Bermuda
shorts tearing up the rocks. Then we met, of course, and he and I were a real team at bouldering... Thanks, my friend. My new film is almost done, but
still struggling with it.

Bump for the great Bermuda shorts! They need to make a comeback. Forget carpenter's pants or pink Lycra.

That's right, Lisa. I agree. A new movement. I might have those somewhere. They would be worth their weight in diamond.

Pat,
Thanks for the share. I hope it's ok that I tweak a couple of your photos so I can see them a little better.

yeah, it's 11:47 PM in Flagstaff right now and I'm not the least bit sleepy. Sort of wired, actually.

Broke down today and got some sleeping pills from my doctor. Hopefully it's one of those full-on knockout pills that has you drooling on your pillow in minutes.

If you don't hear from me again in an hour, it worked!

EDIT: Ament, those photos are a true treat. Keep 'em coming! My favorite pic of you is the one where you're just absurdly ripped -- biceps bigger than my thighs -- and holding up a photo of bob dylan. Post it!

Pat, I spent 32 years,10 months, working graveyards.
I don't know what sleep is. I do know how to pass out. I have been off the graveyard shift now for about 3 years and still have trouble sleeping through the night. So please know, as you lie there staring into the dark, fumbling late night on the computer, burning the soup pot and just waiting for sleep; you are not alone.

You ever play chess with the Fish?

Definitely talk with a medical professional about medication. They have a lot of tools in their quiver that might help you get beyond these problems and back to the Important stuff.

Great Photos!, I love the one of you with Dalke. When I first started climbing in Eldo in the summer of 72, using I think the 2nd edition of High Over Boulder, my mentor told me very sternly "stay away from Dalke 5.8's!".

Yes, Larry was as good a free climber as there was anywhere in the
country, in most respects, aside from Gill, or Pratt in cracks, etc.
Larry was bad in off-widths. In 1967, I led a slew of 5.10 cracks in
the Valley, and Larry just couldn't do those off-widths. He would scrape
the skin off his knees. But then he and (if I remember) Madsen went up
and more or less walked up the Royal/McCracken route on Higher Yosemite
Falls. Larry's strength was face climbing... He never did work out or
do gymnastics, just had a natural gift.

Yes, I played quite a lot of chess in high school and university. In the mid 1970s I played a fair bit in the Valley, with John, Werner, and sometimes a ranger named John Caulkins. That's how I met John. I haven't played much since then, though I still have a board.

I made senior master on the Yahoo speed chess site, a pretty tough assignment (2450), and then I realized it was causing too much stress,
so I quit and have never looked back... Royal and I played a lot, quite a few correspondence games. I was playing a correspondence game once with a fellow in Arizona, and his wife wrote me and said he pulled off a house size rock and died. Wow. That game ended.
