RJ, post is lowered. KCNC ti, by the way. If you know ultralight roadbike stuff, you'll know their wheel skewers. For xc, the post goes way up.

I've been riding this for the year, Formula R1 brakes just broke this weekend after riding Comfortably Numb at whistler.

26 lbs for an extra large size bike - can't complain!

Nice! I was looking at a 2011 slayer, but couldn't wait. My last marathon race bike was an Rocky Mtn etsx. Served me well.

nice bike! i used to ride all the time before i started climbing/bouldering 20yrs ago. i just got a new hardtail like my old one but this one has shock forks and a seat post shock and even that is rad compared to what i used to have for shocks - nothin. if you are ever in the north cali bay area hit up Rough Go trail in Annadel - good old fashioned bumpy/rocky downhill fun!!

I got mine last spring on clearance... stock 2009 bmc trailfox 02 not sure what it weighs but it gets me where i want to be and smoothes out the bumps along the way.

Tell you what, coz. Check out mtbr.com, classifieds. Almost everything mtn bike related that I've bought in the last 10 years has been from there. Unbelieveable prices.

Drunkenmaster: I've ridden every inch of annandale. Awesome riding. China camp is also good, as is tamorancho, and a plethora of other bay area riding.

oh hell yeah man! one very nice ride!

like yours, mine has gone in the same direction, kind of an all-mountain playbike. can earn its turns, and take full advantage of the downhill. i had a good season out here, 27 days at winter park, 4 days at sol vista, and a metric crapton of singletrack.

current pics:

btw: get a remote adjustable seatpost ASAP. i love my kind shock i950r

The new ride- not sure about all the parts and stuff but fist bike in 8 years. Rides and climbs well enough for this old guy. Got a good deal or I never could have aforded it, furloughs days are fun but expensive.

The old ride- had to retire her after 8 years or so of hard riding, North Dakota, Hawaii, Wahsington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, and Canada.

A bottle rocket and an enduro sl. All right!
I was looking at a transition preston, but got such a good deal on this one, I had to buy it.
I moving to England in a few weeks, and I'm taking it with me. I may just sell it there before I come back. One of my friends always does that. Buys whatever he can get a good deal on, goes over to climb etc, sells the bike, more than pays for his flight. Bikes are SOOO expensive over there.
I was just gonna buy a bike when I got to England, and sell it before moving back, but they want like a 700 pounds for a trex hardtail that would cost 350 over here, as an example.

i think you'll be WAY happier with this than you would have on a preston! i'm a big fan of all things TBC, but was never that big of a preston fan. my rig leans a little more towards the gravity side than yours (37 pounds!), but i could totally see you digging the new covert!

arg, its supposed to be nice out today, i should go for a ride... but instead i'm going to get off my butt and go work on getting our cj3a registered so i can take THAT for a rig :)

maybe next weekend i can have amber shuttle me at left hand canyon :)

mrtropy, nice ride man! even if your not 100% thrilled with all of the parts, you got yourself one really fine base to work with and totally worthy of upgrades!

After six years, I had a catostrophic failure of BOTH of the chainstays on my Specialized FSR this past spring. Riding along and the bottom dropped out. Glad I wasn't bombing down a hill or I might have pogo-sticked my way into the hospital.

I'd already been thinking a lot about a new bike by the time the old one busted, so I just decided to make it happen. Bought a Turner Five-Spot frame and went from there. Once I had the parts in hand, a friend and I pretty much did the entire build in one evening. It's an incredible ride.

Ironically, I was able to get a new chainstay for my FSR and for less than $130, that bike was repaired and back in action. Probably going to sell that one when I have some time.

This will actually be the first time I've run Magura. Used their forks, but I've ALWAYS been loyal to Hopes, and I kinda feel like I'm cheating on them or something....

I haven't had any issues with the Marta SL brakes I have, but I've heard stories about them needing to be bled every now and then.

Wildone,
You cant beat an Intense. I have a spider xvp that checks in at just over 21 lbs and is amazing. The raw finish is the way to go IMO. I removed all the decals and hit the frame with some 000 steel wool so that it shines like chrome. I just have to buff it one a year to keep it nice. You might want to think about a hydro adjust seatpost for that thing. I have one on my tracer and it makes the DH that much sweeter.
Nice bike

I live in the land of big bikes and thought my Norco Six was pretty light at 35# when I got it. Especially compared to my friends' Whistler DH machines but now their trading in for lighter freeride bikes and the Six doesn't seem so light anymore. I can still pedal mine pretty well but it would be nice to have a fork that locks out short. Sometimes it's a battle to keep the front wheel down on the steeper climbs.

Durability becomes an issue on the Vancouver north shore once you start shaving the pounds too low.

If you ride XC, and haven't tried a DW Link bike, I recommend it highly.
Very efficient for humping up hills, and I've found I can leave the rear shock In pro-pedal with little to no bob.
