Blue, yea right.
And that wasn't the point of my post, either.
The point is, this criminal government sends US Troops to countries, lets them suffer war traumas, brings them home to familes who have to care for them and deal with the trauma of not getting the proper medical treatment their country OWES them.
I listened to NPR the other day and there was a story about troops who survive explosions and get concussions and when they return, doctors tell them it's all in their head.
I'm tired of hearing about it. A country should care for its soldiers after they've served. ALL of them.
Most are gung-ho to send them off, but no one wants to pay up or accept that some need medical care when they return.

I agree, Mason. But let's not get all pussy-footed here. I'm gung-ho, I support the troops, and the mission.
You make it sound like all gung-ho people instinctively sh#t on wounded troops. That's very far from reality. And it's a bullshit argument. The politicos may sh#t on them, but they're as#@&%es anyway. They only give the troops lip-service and platitudes. The American people do not! Dems and Repubs.

Not all people, just the government and its servants. It's a broad statement, but at the lowest levels of government, they don't do much for troops because the bureaucracy and red tape have miles to travel uphill before any progress is made and care is given.
Did you read the article? Probably not.

No. I don't do NPR. It's crap. Kinda like a publicly funded Reuters.

Yeah, NOW that you are a Conservative adult parent...
Where were you back in the first Gulf War days--smokin' dope, being a hippie and not caring about others?
At least I'm not a hypocrite about supporting the military for DEFENSE (not offense)--btw, where was the National Defense and the military when 4 planes were flying around looking for civilian targets to wreak havoc on 9-11?

The real news is perhaps Afghanistan can develop an economy based on something other than opium which currently represents more than 50% of their feable economy.

I think the timing is just a new media campaign to weaken the strength of Taliban.(Taliban doesn't have the expertise to help you capitalize on your mineral wealth, we do).

Blue - just because you don't "do NPR" doesn't mean the story is not happening and that there aren't hundreds of troops with injuries and disorders not getting treatment.
Fair weather friends?
Maybe we should take some of the riches found in Afghanistan and pay for the troops medical care.

Mason,
Do you support Obamacare?
That the VA is a completely screwed up beaurocracy isn't news. Its always been that way. Ask a WWII vet.
Ask someone on active duty about the Tricare system. Another poorly run govt. program.
Obamacare will just extend the same level of fine government run health care to everyone.

No!!!! Let them keep their riches after we show them how to use it. It's theirs.
It is the responsibility of our gov't to care for her troops. Not the Afghans. It'd be nice if the gestured to us their gratitude, but it shouldn't be expected. A lot of people will hate Americans for a while there, until they realize what they were given.

Rocky, the Balkans conflict was one we were on the wrong side of. We should have supported the Serbs in preventing Albanian intrusion into their country.
Do some research on the conflict. Also look at the timeline of the region and where we are today.
Hint: It's all about ethnicity of the region. Almost worse than Israel/Palestine.

I don't support anything Obama, i think it's all a joke.
It's too easy to see through the smoke and mirrors, or maybe I'm just cynical.

I hear ya, Mason, on the cynicism.
We have to be careful though, not to lose faith in everything. There are dicks out there. A lot of them. But there are good people too. People that DO give a f*#k.
That's why I support our guys on the ground with bullets flying by their faces.
There is good out there....

By the way, the gem minerals coming out of Afghanistan are fabulous and incredible. Many fine collectable pieces are getting to gem and mineral trade shows, such as the World Famous Tucson Gem & Mineral Show (TG&MS).
I must admit I am a nut for native elements/minerals/gems/meteorites. I love the stuff. Everyone has their weakness. I love the beauty, rarity, and value, and the science of mineralogy/petrology. Fine collectables.
If you want an idea of what people are willing to do for such rare minerals and gem collectables watch the movie, "Blood Diamond." Very realistic, and tragic.
The Wars that are waged over natural resources are one of the most serious shames and crimes of humanity.

I think Doug Robinson nailed it...this announcement is about timing, to distract away from the unfolding disaster in the GOM. These mineral deposits were known back in the late 1970s...why release this info now, as if these deposits were just discovered?

If you really want to do something to help this region out, vs. just decrying our failed policies, then send whatever donation you can to:
http://www.ikat.org/
It's criminal that we have the means to turn things around in that region through the Central Asia Institute for literally pennies, yet we wast billions of $'s and thousands of live's in military campaings that are a failure.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/14/world/asia/14minerals.html?emc=na
The vast scale of Afghanistan’s mineral wealth was discovered by a small team of Pentagon officials and American geologists. The Afghan government and President Hamid Karzai were recently briefed, American officials said.
While it could take many years to develop a mining industry, the potential is so great that officials and executives in the industry believe it could attract heavy investment even before mines are profitable, providing the possibility of jobs that could distract from generations of war.
TT, said we have known about these resources since the 70s. Yes, you are correct. We have. Seems to me the article is trying to suggest that we have just now discovered the natural resource wealth of Afghanistan. That is 100% USDA Bovine Dung. We knew what we were doing. We knew why we wanted to go to War in Afghanistan. Rox is right though. Have we ever really formally declared War? I think we just formally declared Natural Resource riches. Is that the same thing?
So why did we really go into Afghanistan? Are they now trying to make it look like, "Wow! Hey! Look at what we just discovered!" How convenient.
What Bull.

I stated what had been told me by a woman (and her Engineer husband and their son actually) who lived through it and eventually had to flee a life of wealth and privilege in their own nation.
So, what, she's a f*#king outright authority on the whole situation??? Ask a Israeli IDF soldier what he thinks of Hamas rocket-lobbers? Is that not biased???
Quit wearing your 'friend' on your sleeve. She's a human, not your tool!
