When he made reference to a gun, he made what the law calls a "terrorist threat", which is a felony in California. YOU are the victim if his threat caused you fear.
Call the sheriff and have the guy arrested.

HUH???? NOT SURE WHERE YOU GOT THAT (again can you comprehend the English written language or did you just not read the thread). There is nothing known here which you would see if you read the thread instead of responding like you do in general.
You also wrote well he is gonna have your name if you file ANY sort of complaint. You want this guy who has a REAL big dick knowing just who the hell you are? HE will have your address and car model, color and plates just as soon as he wants them too. Public records.

Guy comes along like big dog in his machine, and I promise you he almost CERTAINLY knows HIS bounds, he paid for the survey when he bought the place.
You would be surprised how often that is not the case with larger land owners...working daily mapping large ranches in Montana, I often find that there sometimes confusion...
EDIT: I'm actually trying to pull together some maps, but the available data for that county is less than great, which also lends itself to boundary confusion....

If it's private prop, no problem - I ain't gonna knowingly go climb there, unless they are ok with it.
1) I don't think it is
2) The gun part was BS especially since he got NO tude from us.
3) Also, as was his attitude not mellowing once it became immediately clear we were gonna get the hell outta there and not be a problem. My response to him was very polite and respectful. The only words my partner said to him was "have a nice memorial day weekend" as we left.
4) Isn't climbing inherently dangerous and hasn't this been accepted law that you cant sue if you get hurt climbing on private property (not that that wouldn't stop a lawyer from trying)

Ahh I see read between the lines. Whatever dude. The locals here are already saying that lower fossil falls is ok and he chased us to upper falls and yelled not to come back to the lower. So unless you know more than the locals (ahh yes, i forgot you know more than everyone) why don't you stop your diarrhea.

more bad sh#t from him, something about I should check the internet (now that I have I see that was a bunch of bs)... me again "we had no idea, we saw no sign or fence" he mutters about how that doesn't matter...me again "If you could show us where on the map in the book the property line is that would be helpful", more crap from him and a refusal to show us anything on the map I have in the book. I mutter something about picking up some garbage we found, more crap from him....About this point we are leave, my bro tells him to "Have a nice memorial day weekend"

From what I can tell by some searches, this is the area in question.
Shaded is public(BLM) and non-shaded is private
I also put it on google earth/maps for viewing

Hey Kev,
Fight on. Don't back down. Do some research and if you are right then set up a sting.
Get a buddy and a video camera.
Get this guy on tape when he threatens you with death/severe bodily harm with a deadly weapon. That kind of threat is WRONG when your life or someone else’s is not in danger.

Thanks :) Hard to tell by that map but from what I can see acording to the unshaded area, fossil falls is on private land. That doesn't seem to jive with the new BLM sign there (and map) and a pay BLM campground, etc. Hard to really tell though since were talking hundreds of feet not thousands. Scotts Bluff is off according to this map.
Your search wouldn't differentiate between private vs LADPW (LA department of Power and Water) would it?
Heard back from the access fund guys who are looking into this (there was another incident recently). They seem to believe that some of the land in question is LADPW (not supprising over there). I've ordered the BLM map.

Kev, if you were threatened with even the mention of a gun you should contact the police and your lawyer right away. Not only is it total BS, it's a felony too. Sorry to hear about your bummer, but I'm more chapped about the gun issue. Morons like this must be made an example of if those of us that are responsible gun owners are to be able to remain so. Please follow-up on this with the proper authorities and your own legal counsil.
