Eleven hours is a long time to be unconscious, if I read the above post correctly. Best wishes for a full recovery.
And yes, Wes your comments are not at all appropriate to the context of this thread. Exaggerated too. To say most Americans would be bankrupted by an accident like this is baloney. Give your anger a rest, eh?

So sad. Life can change in an instant. Thoughts and prayers for the fallen climber.
He'll get good care at DMC (at least based on my limited but recent experience)
props to YOSAR once again

Steve. Yeah it is surprisingly slick and people have fallen there before (if that is where he fell). I think Steve Arsenault was the first back in 1970?? Roughly. Tricky unusual pitch that does not look like trouble.

The rescue crew is the balls. Good work getting up and getting someone off-It is sort of a casual topic on the ST but I am totally impressed that those folks can do the job they do. Hope things work out for this gentleman.

The other climber that we scooped out of the talus 3 hours ago at the base of Royal Arches went off his rappel.
That's 2 med flights today.
What's going on?

Locker is right on.
Building a skill set is fun. Why are people trying to bypass the process?
Besides, although climbers must be ambitious the overly ambitious climbers cause problems for us all.
I don't know if this is a case of that, but we really need to put pressure on noobs to acquire competence.
Hope the frenchman is OK and ready to pay for his rescue and medical care. No need to burden the hospitable taxpayers who pay for the parks and system that saved him. Euros are still worth more than dollars thank you very much.

Tom told me this aft he heard that buddy climbed the chimney from the Alcove up to behind the Spire, mantelled onto the Spire but had a moment of dizziness, and then fell right off.
Hang in there, mon ami...
Watch for the El Cap Report coming your way soon. Sorry to repeat hearsay.

It was desperately windy today, and damn cold. Must have been some really difficult flying. They got buddy out early this morning before it got too bad. It sounds grim that he hadn't regained consciousness.
Does anyone have any more recent news?

You are always gonna hang it out when you do amazing routes like The Salathe, no magic sticky rubber or cams will get you up it, gotta have a sac. Always a route that commands some respect, hopefully he gets healed up and can head back out and have some more adventures.

Ouch Werner, That's two rap accidents behind the Ahwahnee in a few weeks eh? There's been something in the air. John Roe broke his ankle on the column too recently.

It makes me cringe to hear that. I remember mantling onto the spire with a sense of relief. It's a pitch you don't want to climb wrong and there are plenty of choices where to go and how to face, particularly if you haven't "Read" a lot of chimneys.
Wishing the Bro well.
Peace

Jean Noel Crouzat was operated on for a cerebral blood clot and is conscious and making fast progress. He may be out of the hospital in a week. I'd like to thank the rescue service and the climbers who helped him for their amazing work. For those who worry about the bill, it will be 100 percent covered by his insurance as well as the repatriation and follow up in France. For any of you who happen to come here in France it would probably be worth your while to join the Club Alpin Francais because the insurance comes with it and covers everything you could imagine for about 35 euros. Jean Noel should be back here within 2 weeks.

By the way, his family and friends are following this thread. Some of you have about as much tact as George Bush throwing up at a state dinner with the Japanese Emperor.
