Slater,
Spring Crag is about a half mile past the gate at Islip Saddle. Cortelyou Spring is on the right side of the road, an old radiator water spring from back in the day, now the old brickwork is in disrepair. The single rock is just uphill from the spring, and visible from the road. there's a couple of good short bolted routes, on excellent granite. Probably still a bit of snow there though, since it's north facing.
It's on RC.com, but the photo is wrong. The photo is actually Tunnel Crag... http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/North_America/United_States/California/Los_Angeles_County/Spring_Crag/

Rincon, yeah, I saw that, and was confused by the photo. Also, Brent's guide to Tunnel mentions Vista Mtn. but I guess that's just a nearby cliff? I want to go check out these areas but not until HOrse Flats is open. Pacifico sounds mildly interesting, but not very vast from what I hear.

Tunnel mtn and vista are like 200 feet away from each other. When you are looking up, the Tunnel in on the left and Vista on the right. After you pass through the 2 tunnels you drive about a 1/4 mile and then park in the turnout on the left.

I know you can hike up to the top pretty easy from Islip saddle or from the turnout just a little past Williamson, but thats just the PCT trail and then you could maybe scramable down to the top of the craig. Or you might be able to go up between Tunnel and Vista to get to the top easier?
I'm going Snowboarding up the Crest tomorrow and I'm gonna try and check out horse flats and I'll post some pics.

I went up to Horse Flats a couple weeks ago and found Santa Clara Divide Road open as far as Bandido Campground. The West side of Hillyer was burned pretty thoroughly but Horse Flats escaped the fire.
If you go up you will likely have the place totally to yourself.

Sorry...No pics. The gate was closed at Three Points (Where Santa Clarita Divide Road meets the Crest), But it wasn't locked so I opened it and drove in. The sides of the road are burned for about 1/2 a mile. Then when I got up to the Christian camp there was another gate and it was locked. But it's nice there and not burned. Chilao is all locked up too, so you can't take the other way around either.

Tfish... any "no climbing" or "STay out" NFS signs for horse flat? Can I go and boulder there?
How was your snow day?

There was a sign that says No Forest Use (The ones that are up all over the place) where Santa Clarita Divide meets the Crest. And just past the first gate there was a sign that said the PCT was closed. Then where the 2nd gate is there are a bunch of no parking signs. So you could prolly mtn bike in from Newcombs or get dropped off up there and wander over to it. I know there is a ranger station back in there too so its kinda sketchy.

Tfish, just say your post AFTER I emailed you. Thanks!
That's too bad! I wonder how long it'll be closed? With Williamson and HOrse Flats closed, there isn't much reason to head up there anymore... Just Tunnel Crags.

climbing and skiing in the san gabes--my crowd here. slater sure has a lot of questions for a casual visitor from the central coast. i advise him to stop picking his nose--we don't give credit for friction cranks to guys who do that.
if it's not too much to ask, please check my recent posts on the echo cliffs thread. i report what i know about the frog situation, which i think is being shrouded from us. i think if enough concerned climbers study up on this, we'll start asking the right questions and maybe we can get it worked out. it just isn't happening otherwise.

Millard Campground is open, but the waterfall and aid climbs are still closed. We went up yesterday and that dick f*#k campground host said he put up 20 extra signs to make sure that no one went up there. He said the newts need time to recover.
