Indeed.

Consider the landscape of the post-Trump Presidency for the (D) President elect on one item just for openers.

The "resistance" has blocked a large number of appointees and Trump has fired yet more officials he doesn't like. So there are a large number of vacant spots for cabinet secretaries, ambassadors etc. Trump has learned to roll with it and has decided he doesn't need them.

So the new President elect is going to have to reverse the momentum or the Federal government will simply need to learn to live without these people. This, in an energized (R) environment that wants revenge and will do to the (D)s as was done to them. We will be paying for all of it.

Remember that it was moderates who flipped the house. Moderates, who ran in swing/lean Republican districts and won. AOC gets much of the oxygen these days, but there is a more complex story behind dem party power than we are typically seeing. If the party’s leaders drifted entirely to the left, it would be political suicide.

I guess one big difference: today a significant portion of the population believes they are entitled that wealth. Let's call them entitled brat class.

What is a moderate these days? Five Billion for barriers at the border seemed moderate. Pocket lint for DC. The 2008 Obama immigration position seems moderate. But these days it gets you labeled a fascist.

The (R)s appear to have given up getting any of the political appointee backlog through. They may even be allowing the office real estate etc to get recycled. They only seem to be concerned with Federal judgeships. This administration is going to be felt for a long time.

The conventional wisdom is that business owners who replace human workers with robots will accumulate wealth — something a left-leaning politician would usually be opposed to.

The means of production belong in the hands of the worker Bots!

Chump change. Just another brick in a wall of diversion.

She is obviously a predator, just look at those teeth honey. OMG what a villain! Unless, of course, your a horse.

John: thats a great question and of course, fluid. I don’t consider myself to be a moderate, but I also don’t consider myself close to being in AOC territory. But, I think we can look at the dem party and identify the AOC/sanders (even though he isn’t a dem) wing and a large number of Dems who are closer to what a mushy middle/middle left might look like, who differ from the far left in style and substance, reflecting their swingy/righty constituents. They flipped the house, not AOC.

They flipped the house, not AOC.

Yes. In fact my Congressperson - Jerry Nadler - ran buses to nearby districts every weekend full of volunteers to flip adjacent and nearby districts. Personally, I don't believe I would react positively to people coming from the big city to tell me how to vote, but that's me. The fact is, districts got flipped all around here.

AOC, is in a safe (D) district. The party feels they own the seat not her. If she jeopardizes their chances in 2020 I think she gets tossed.

I saw this am, the Feds denied funding for some train tunnel here in NY. While I don't know the full particulars, seems obvious NY is losing money while its /pols strut about the national stage with their "resistance" and running for President. Meanwhile, my taxes are going up because I was thrown under the bus so they wouldn't get their hands dirty trying to work out some sort of deal during the tax "reform" negotiations. I'm not happy at all.

AOC does not represent "The" left, my left or your left. She doesn't help define "The" middle, my middle or your middle.

She certainly does now. She is an elected official with a huge megaphone and following. She is not the only one, but she is a face for the left.

When was the last time Republicans were interested in working with Dems on anything major?

No, we got a complete crap tax bill not because of some “resistance,” but because the Republican Party has not shown any inclination to work with Dems and are ruled by ideologues. And since they were in the majority, they could muscle through whatever crap bill they wanted to. What amazes me is that they didn’t do even more damage—it wasn’t for lack of trying.

I think the (R)s would have been delighted to have even the fig leaf of the bill being "bipartisan". Raised the ceiling for local taxes. Even to 20 or 30 thousand.

The President, comes from a mile from my house. The Minority Leader, is my states Senior Senator. The hottest new (D) is from an adjacent district. You would think I would be golden.

AOC isn't nearly as big of a deal as the retirees and the media make her out to be.

I don't buy into some of her ideas, but she's headed in a much better direction than the bible thumping trumpies and the sellouts sitting around whining and counting their beans.

I will say this though:

The right hates her because she turns them on, yet doesn't pander to their twisted sense of entitlement and fulfillment.

I dunno about sexual titillation, but AOC's far left views definitely provide the Right with a useful political cudgel to characterize Dems as being extremists as a whole.

Trump put up several proposals.

Last winter, path to citizenship for 1.8 million dreamers was on the table.

More recently, he made several offers to cut a deal.

In every case, the Dems essentially said F*CK YOU!

Let's not pretend the Dems are acting in good faith.

Well, they certainly like to make fun of her. Not seeing a lot of hate, amused dislike, perhaps. But her energy has invigorated politics. Go Girl!

Don't forget it was the chair of the DNC himself, who annointed her as "The Future" of the Democratic Party. Essentially painting the target on her.

The GOP's no-compromise pledge

“We're going to do everything — and I mean everything we can do — to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”

Is it good for the country? Yes, but it would be an Obama success and we can’t have that so the country will just have to suffer. So no jobs bills. While we’re blocking jobs bills we’ll blame Obama for a slow recovery. Brilliant!

The gall exhibited by Republicans was truly staggering. After President Obama was able to get through a stimulus bill with absolutely no GOP support, Republicans would get their pictures taken with stimulus checks, taking credit for the very thing they voted against.
