I'm so sorry to read of this. Hang in there, buddy!

Hey there, say Neebee - we will try to gather tonight at the El Cap Bridge, and the Monkeys will send the power of healing [along with that of YHWH Rapha]

With respect and prayers,
PtL and PtP Pete

Edit; One little prayer with the monkeys in Curry

Best wishes from your neighbours to the North.

It's always a bit of an eye opener when something like this happens to the absolute last person you would expect.

He's aware of his surroundings, responsive to verbal stimuli and attempts to open his eyes when asked.

This is definitely good news. The body can take a lot more abuse than the mind. Whatever the karma of this accident is, I feel much more optimistic after hearing this news.

I will join with Neebee and Lynne in a meditation.

Cheers to Scott. Had a bit too much to drink tonight but thinking about the days working together in Berkeley and a hilarious day in the valley ending in failure and drinks.

Coz you son of a bitch, get up! You called me just weeks ago to pay your respects and console me about Brian, and we shared some laughs and some great memories. You guys are larger then life for so many of us that attempted to follow in your footsteps but never could. Your words the other week were so comforting, so honest, and so sincere. The true qualities of a person that makes them a cut above everyone else. Now heal up, so we can hear more of that honesty in your voice and in the climbing you leave behind.

Great to hear he's responding to stimuli. Something to start with certainly. It's gonna be a long road Scott, but you got this dude. Keep fighting bro. Never allow yourself to give up. No matter how much it hurts physically or mentally. You will heal with time, and effort!

Scott, I really cannot add to what others have posted. Best wishes from Ireland.

EDIT

Being a med school drop out and a former EMT, but Scotty (if I may say that) responding to stimuli and verbal responses, Scott, you are on the road, but it may be a long one. Be prepared.

I was in a wheelchair for six months when I was ten after being hit by a car.

Injuries take time (let them), but if your mind is focussed and you have good support, and your desire is there, you'll be climbing again.

Talked with Coz's co-worker who has been at his side since the accident first happened.

They were working in an airplane hangar, up a little more than 30 feet rigging a line to an I-beam type structure. It is not exaxctly known how, nor is it need-to-know for this discussion, but Coz fell out of the Condor Crane (a tall, cherry-picker kind of boom-arm hoist) and air-balled straight into the cement deck. By the looks of his injuries he broke the fall with a one hand and one leg - getting open (compound) fractures above one wrist and below one knee - transitioned into a face plant, basically shattering every bone in his upper face, including a ghastly open skull fracture - then body slammed, braking all kinds of ribs, etc. The doctors said he basically broke himself in two, with many internal breaks (ribs etc.) but astonisingly, no major organ damage, no spinal issues and aside from swelling on the brain, requiring a draniage tube/stint, no significant brain damage.

While critical, he is expected to "fully recover," though common sense tells us that his mobility will be compromised to some extent by his many injuries/fractures. So who knows how his recovery will play out, but it will, and that is a blessing in and of itself. Perhaps a miracle, seeming that paramedics were so concerned by the severity of his injuries they figured they were transporting a dead man to the hospital.

Doctors have already reconstructed his face, plated his skull and the plastic guys repaired he open wound. External fixators have been rigged up on his leg and arm. His face is twice it's normal size so he's appraently a horrible sight. They also fitted him with a trach to make breating easier owing to the swelling.

So he's all f*#ked up - but will aparently make it.

More as I learn it.

GO COZ!
