I've had my share of scrapes with Johnny Law as a teenager and know that most of the time I deserved it. But here are some facts that over 40 years of driving have taught me (30 of them driving commercial vehicles). I wish I had known these things back when I was a young driver and a hippie climber.

I've been clean and sober almost 26 years and I'm rarely in a hurry these days so its much easier for me now to fly under the radar, so to speak, ha ha.

Some of your rights to remember if you are stopped

There are only two orders that a peace officer can give if you are pulled over that you must comply with. Fail to comply with them and things will probably end badly for you, especially the 2nd order.

1. You must provide them with your license and registration when you are asked for them.

2. You must step out of the vehicle if you are asked to do so.

You do not have to agree to let them search your car. If they think they have probable cause they will do so anyway.

You do not have to tell an officer how fast you think you were going or if you thought you were speeding. "I don't think I was or I don't know," is an adequate answer. If you admit how fast you were going and you were speeding it is considered by the law to be an of admission of guilt and they have to write you a speeding ticket.

If you are stopped and questioned stay calm and remain civil at all times. If they search your car without probable cause or violate your rights in any way, the side of the road is not the place to argue about it. Later you can fight citations or charges in court if you were not in the wrong or if your rights have been violated.

Something to think about if you are not being stopped;

Most of the time waving to a peace officer when you see them on the side of the road or when they pass is considered ok because they like to know that you see them. Also if you are speeding at the time and you wave after slowing they will know you see them and are adjusting your speed, in which case they will often be less likely feel the need to pull you over and cite you if you are attempting to comply with the speed limit. I know that sounds crazy but regardless of the fact that some cops have some kind of a 'dick' gene, they're all just people.

Brave Cowboy, your, twice now, pinched picture, is as an ode to the onetime head that I was.
It Is the picture, a great one at that, that is numbered 420/420 so at random I typed it in and in a stoney synchronized way it fit in and lit up the flames,
Cragman?!
Dean, if you met me or if I you, I might just get you a contact high, it's been gnome to happen !

cheers, I drink less beers than I do pull tubes - If I had a bucket to piss in I'd send your allotment to Lynn or may be Locker.

It is not jarring you would be well served by the recent buds and the crumbs that it takes to bring on any noticeable feelings of what the kids to day call a buzz.
If sleep won't come & the next days a plumb, try a toke - bloke, it will not addict you.
We are not talk in' The Seattle Super sonic, or anything that sticks to your forehead when pressed there, (Ho my ganja, your in the green triangle )
that sticky icky sends old dudes spinnin' - but a mild sleepy time high for your first try
is way over due!
Why would a supreme being create such a thing ? and I know, that free will to sin jive you've prescribed to. A non-starter of an argument for medical sake if not g-d's.

I Need to point out that when I list the top of the Topians , you and Bob dA, are at the very top! Thank you . And neither of you toke! Or ever have!
I tweek to amuse not to Ryle or ridicule - are you really moving away from June Lake?
From here in small rock hell that seems a mistake.

I don't know how people get pulled over so often, I guess profiling goes a long way. I just got home from a 4800+ mile round trip and had zero issues with police. There was one time where I was driving through the awful land of Illinois doing like 5-7 mph over the limit while barely being able to pass anyone because believe it or not, everyone speeds in the midwest at all times of the day, and apparently a guy was gaining on me from behind.

A trooper standing outside his car with a radar gun points at the car right behind me and gestures him to the shoulder... close call I guess.

I think the real trick with speeding is knowing where the patrol hotspots are and that takes firsthand knowledge of an area, therefore if you're not from around here, don't go faster than the flow of traffic! Keep your cruise on and chill.

If you're doing 85 on a 75 road, protip... you're only saving like 7 minutes per hour, big f*#king woop, slow your sh#t down, it makes long drives easier to take it at an easier pace.

My last hit was almost 19 years ago, but I can say that I would have no problem being "profiled" as a pot-smoking climber, as opposed to being profiled for being a black man in the US.

Cops may toward some verbal harassment when they think you may be a pot-smoking climber, but they probably aren't going to draw their gun "in fear for their life" and shoot you point blank when they pull you over.

Five over the limit, max, and I never ever smoke then drive. Keep your sh#t in the trunk and be polite. Also, be a white male, or at least approximate one.

I am kind of torn between being dutifully respectful and answering questions and being tight-lipped and singular/repetitive in directing an officer.

The latter, seems deliberately obtuse, and immediately uncooperative - I forsee the possibility of serious tooling starting from this place.

With the former I forgo some of my rights, but seems less confrontational - this is the way I always opt, FWIW.

Not every hour on the hour
or even every day
but once in a while when others have a sip I'd rather take a hit.
Now, the strength, potency, has so changed that, and that the variety of 'types' of 'debilitating'
Buzz can be chosen,, while I can no longer fake it a hit or two is all you need and all I can afford; $$ , brain cells and lungs.

If I were not in small rock hell raising spawn, I would, too, have let slip the vice of gettin' stoned, long ago.Maybe? Maybe not.

I just did Denver to San Diego in about 16 hours straight, took plenty of stops along the way, even turned off onto a dirt road in Fish Lake National Forest to take in the wilderness. You will get used to long driving but you have to be eating small snacks and staying hydrated, take plenty of breaks.

Do you want to save a small insignificant amount of time by speeding or do you want to risk having your sh#t flipped upside down by some meathead cop on a power trip?

I don't partake when I m going climbing,
I would if I were younger. It used to be, at the lower 'octane'
after a particularly hard bit of climbing, a tasty puff, really seemed to help.

Now, I am not advancing any new or un- heard of practice, the use of all kinds of drugs in all sports is and has been rampant.

The use of steroids in the form of 'asthma' medicine administered by a puffer,
was around in the'80s . . . The, need to breath was also a great help in instant recovery.
So it may have been a - trade-off - (?) if you had allergies or asthma, or any real medical need.

A early member of the 5.13 club BITD, who made Elvis tights famous, made me notice/realize, and then , With New Eyes,( A Route,Carriage road, gunks) I saw that others were on the 'sauce' too.

I used to be a K9 handler. The amount of BS calls I had to come and support a LEO was absurd. I was even asked to "make the dog sit" in one case. In which I promptly reported to my watch supervisor. My dog sat when he found something. Not at the request of some butthurt LEO that got schooled by a citizen who knew their rights.
