"But now they will think that they can legally do it with guns."
How do you know what other people think?
You read minds?
What are you thinking, wasting your time working some chickenshit NPS job when you could take your mindreading act to Vegas and open for Celine Dionne three times a night?
And make some real money.

Guess the only course of action left is to hide under the bed(with the aforementioned firearm) and wait for it all to end.
Life is dangerous, the World is dangerous, don't make me go out there!
A lot of these w(h)ines would be better with some cheese.....
Dude, psycho killer wolves are eating tourists....

I'm not ranting about wolves, and I described an actual incident where the mere possible presence of a gun kept the peace, but Sissy Powers, Pull Myroel, and John Wayne Wettoast ignore it because they want to say;
yada
yada
yada
yada
yada

blaaaaaaaap
How productive to the discussion!

"I kept saying to myself.... who THE F*#K is RONBO?"
When I first saw the thread, I thought Ronbo was some young guy celebrating his 18th birthday. Then I realized nobody that young would have any reason to be hanging around here. That's when I opened the thread to see what was up.

On gun ownership and self-protection: A gun is a machine designed specifically to destroy life and that makes it considerably different than a smoke detector or a helmet. Guns are remarkably dangerous machines in the hands of the wrong person. The logical conclusion of the pro gun ownership/carrying argument is that all should carry a gun perhaps as a visible side arm and the result would be a perfect peace based on some sort of mutual assured destruction. Of course that wouldn’t be the case. The result of universal gun ownership would be the diminishing value of life and an increase in deaths related to the use of those guns. Human interactions whether on the freeway or the sidewalk would escalate into life threatening encounters. The NRA’s obsession with gun “rights” is part of pathology of the human psyche born of unsubstantiated fear, anger and a sense of being powerless and diminished. The anger that “carry” supporters demonstrate in these very predictable exchanges demonstrates a sense of these disproportionate fears. It’s a shame there can’t be more reasonable exchanges on what is really an important issue. Unfortunately there are those that place a higher value on emotional catharsis than reasoned discourse.

Pullmy Roel says, "the pro gun ownership/carrying argument is that all should carry a gun".
Huh?
Thank you very much sir, but I think that our lobby would prefer to appoint it's own spokesman.
Mr Stzzo user,
first off you sound sort of like a pussy for assuming there were "police reports", but I'll give you a few more details;
1) at the time climbing in Capitol Reef had been banned, not because of environmental concern, but only because of the resulting poor driving by tourons
2) touron with Cal plates parks dead center below Touchstone everyone gets out to watch climbers
3) with both vehicles properly parked a Coloradan and I are about 15m away from this chinese fire drill
4) I comment (audible to touron driver) about how californians drive
5) touron driver (big guy) puffs out his chest and says, "I'm not from Kalifornia. I'M FROM TEXAS."
6) both the Coloradan (probably another touron) and I spontaneously erupt into laughter
7) Mr. texass goes to car reaches under seat
8) I say OH CHIT, and go to the first aid kit
9) Mr texass approaches with brand new fancy assed handled knife
10) Coloradan says, "Oh chit. He's got a knife!"
11) I make a comment audible to both
12) Mr texass stops dead, turns around, drives away
13) Coloradan goes other way to change underwear
Chit, I think I've been trolled.
Well anyway, forty years in the parks and a one time "use".
I guess that since I get hurt on so few visits maybe I shouldn't even bother having a first aid kit,..

An usnafe owner makes for an unsafe gun. I wonder why the gun advocates are always resorting to personal attacks and with such anger. Doses of ecstasy are in order here perhaps while your cleaning your gun. Of course be careful.

Rocks,
"And frankly I dint care about you opinion of my assessment" I guess that ends our conversation, I care about your opinion; I am always willing to learn. If you read most of my posts you will find that we actually agree more than you think we do, I’m still trying to decipher this law change because it is likely to have a real affect on me if it isn’t overturned, I’m feeling it out.
Here are my simple beliefs
1. Pistols should never have been invented
2. The less guns in national parks the better
3. If you are responsible enough to own a gun, you should be responsible enough to carry it, anywhere. Even if I think it’s a bad idea
My response to people assisting me is my view on a situation that has never happened to me, but still I do not ever want to put a citizens life in danger, even though you believe I’m out here for different reasons, I swear keeping people safe is one of them, encouraging people to carry guns so they can assist me if I get in a shootout, or if I’m getting beat up, is not consistent with my view of keeping people safe, trust me I don’t think I’m super man.
Ron, so if you would have kept your arrogant mouth shut he probably would never had gone to get his knife? Not a good argument if you’re trying to convince me you should be allowed to carry a gun, escalating a situation like that is closed case for me; your gun privilege should be revoked.

Fascinating intrest in pet names for the male organ “wienie” “willie” etc. These are obviously terms used only by the bold and courageous alpha male in his close knit family of comrades. Can’t help but admire your short bio of incredible deeds especially the scalping, an act, which of course, can only be performed by a real man. As you know, John Wayne himself advocated the scalping of his enemies, but only after he’d tried to kill his captors. Suggest doubling the dose of ecstasy while you clean those landmines.

Well Sissy Powers, you make a strong argument.
Obviously I had no business resenting the NPS restricting climbers because of poor drivers' bad judgement.
And obviously people who hail from Texas are to be feared and naturally respected.
Certainly making audible comments is far more aggressive than say, whipping out a knife.
And then there was the laughter, an obvious threat.
Yes, you're right. It was all my fault. Its not like I actually defused the encounter or anything.
Yes, I guess I should have been less arrogant and more,.... of a sissy.
Tell me, when you lead do you ever actually get above the bolts?

Skully,
a friend asked me about climbing on the Res.
I said, "Well, I haven't got any hair so at least they can't scalp me."
And now Sissy will respond.
Why is he even ON a climbing site?

I know im right, Your the one that created the situation, by opening your smartass mouth, had you not done that there is a very high chance you would not have had a knife pulled on you. you were being an ass, homeboy texan was an ass, what you had was a classic "my penis is bigger than your penis" not a good example for trying to condone your right to carry a gun.
"Yes, I guess I should have been less arrogant and more,.... of a sissy."
Or just less of an A-hole! LOL!!!
Tell me, when you lead do you ever actually get above the bolts?"
No, its unsafe.

It's true that John Wayne never actually scalped anyone though he was an advocate. He did occasionally take an ear though, and when he died he had quite a collection that he used to wear around his neck. I believe he was buried in them as they were a trope for his lifelong manliness.
