Give up Brandon, you'll never get a rational response. I've posted the "Letter to Dr. Laura" several times here on ST in response to people who point to the bible as an unquestionable source, but have never received a serious response. Either the question is ignored, or the response is just further bible quotes.
Cognitive dissonance at its finest.

Here you go, Bruce. Just copy and paste. And let me know if you ever get an intelligible answer from a literalist bible quoter.
Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath.Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?
6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?
7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?
8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

I haven't given up on this. I will answer the question regarding Marriage OT, and marriage NT. However you have to understand some things first . . .
You guys are really struggling with the whole OT covenant vs. NT covenant, and missing the deep spiritual aspects and truths. The OT covenant was a type and shadow of better things to come.
In the OT, GOD was rebooting mankind, cleaning up the Earth after the whole Fallen Angel with mankind evil debacle. He specifically used to Nation of Israel as his tool to do so. They had to rid the Earth of the Nephilim. Setting his Law in stone, and working with a very specific people The Nation of Israel, The Jews, His Chosen People, whom were very rebellious and stubborn (just like modern man is today imagine that.) He had to whip them into shape to be the people whom he wanted and to be Holy and to abide by his Laws. The Law showed us what sin was. It also taught us that the price of sin is death, spiritual death and yes even physical death at times. "The wages of sin is death." Many of the very specific Laws of The Torah were and are meant only for The Nation of Israel, Teh Jews, and then under the OT covenant. WE are now under the NT covenant, not to OT covenant that was only meant for a very specific people, The Nation of Israel. It served its purpose though.
All of the Law is not done away with. The 10 Commandements abide even now. And the Two Great Commandments.
Jesus Christ is the prophesied Messiah. He was prophesied to come to Earth throughout the OT. It was prophesied he would come as a humble servant, to teach mankind the new covenant, and to be a savior for Israel and for the sins of the World. Remember, this is GOD the Son coming to down to Earth. Emmanuel, GOD with us. He is The Lamb of GOD. There would be no more need to sacrifice animals for the sins of the World after GOD himself came down to Earth and took the price of sin, death for us. He was spotless, Holy, and without blame. He is the only ultimate sacrifice GOD the Father would ever accept. He is The Lamb of GOD. He has come to Earth once. This was his first arrival to Earth. As a humble servant, to Be The Lamb of GOD, and to be The Savior of the World. He will return again. This time as a Conqueror to set us his eternal Kingdom, to rule the Nations from the Seat of GOD, The Holy Temple of GOD, from Jerusalem. Then a 1000 years of peace. The Millenium.
The message was first to Israel, The Jews, The Chosen, "The Apple of GOD's Eye." The Nation of Israel which is The Bride of GOD. The saving message of Jesus Christ, The Messiah, was first to Israel, The Jews, and then to the Gentile Nations. True Christians, The Church of GOD, are The Bride of Jesus Christ. GOD the Father, GOD the Son, and GOD The Holy Spirit are one.
The veil that covers the spiritual eyes of Israel as a whole will soon be removed (this is happening now, Messianic Jews they're numbers are growing very rapidly) and they will weep for Christ Jesus as a mother weeps for her first born and they will realize that Jesus Christ was/is the Prophesied Messiah. He always has been. They didn't see him though. It was prophesied that they wouldn't accept him when he came as a servant, The Lamb of GOD. He had to come to Earth as a servant and to die for the sins of the World first. They wanted and were looking for a conquering Messiah. Well, he is coming again to do just that . . .
Now the price for sin has been paid. GOD paid it for us with his own life. This is The ultimate in Agape love. That is how much GOD loves us. We now through faith can accept his gift and our sins are forgiven. But then we are to go and sin no more. We are also required to make restitution when possible.
When we do sin again, and we will since we are human, then we can ask GOD to forgive us with the blood shed for our sins, the blood of Jesus Christ. The Law of GOD has not been done away with. The wages of sin are still death, but the price has already been paid for us. We just have to accept it. GOD does expect us to "go and sin no more." We can do so if we accept his gift, and now rather than a physical temple made out off stone for GOD to dwell in, now GOD can reside in us. Our hearts are purified by his blood that he shed and makes our hearts Holy in his sight and he can dwell in us and guide us. The temple of GOD is our hearts now, not a stone temple. The Law of GOD is now written in our hearts and not on stone tablets.
WE now have the ability to live a sinless life if we abide in GOD and his word. If we continue to live in sin after coming to GOD, we then crucify Christ anew over and over again. That can not be. You have to be Born Again, born anew in the Spirit of GOD. It is a life changing experience. It will make you not want to sin, it will make you want to read your Bible, to want to get to know GOD your father and to draw closer to GOD. If someone says they are "Saved" and a "Christian" and continue to live a life full of sin, they are only fooling themselves. GOD doesn't abide in them.
There are states of being that man can be in where they are lost even if they think they are saved, but they are not. They are fooling themselves and not abiding in GOD's word. There are many false doctrines out there that are being taught that completely lead The Children of GOD away from GOD himself and they don't realize it. We can talk about these states of being where people think they are a OK, but they are not.
GOD says himself, "My people perish for lack of vision."
bvb,
I'm glad you're going to Church. That is a good start. Hope you're hearing GOD's truth and allowing it to sink into your heart and allowing GOD to change you.
Attacking someone verbally and calling them all kinds of nasty names is not from the Spirit of GOD however.
I am very familiar with the ministry of Larry Norman. I have many of his albums/CDs/DVDs. He is a good man. However, like all of us, he had serious flaws too. His message was a great message to those first coming to Christ, those first coming to GOD. I agree. His ministry was to new Christians mostly. But you can't grow spiritually on milk. You need meat, you need spiritual protein to grow. Larry Norman was a very good evangilist for the young, and those who love music, I absolutely agree. He had a great message from GOD. I miss him a great deal.

You still don't get it. The OT covenant was a type and shadow for the NT covenant. The OT even talks about a new covenant that was to come. It was by design from the very beginning.
This was all worked by GOD before the creation. His word is eternal. He knew what would happen and he made the arrangements for his saving plan when he knew Man with a free-will would go his own way, before man was ever in existence.
Remember, GOD doesn't want Robots. He made the Heavenly Host with free-will, at least the Angels. He made us in his own image. He paid a heavy price to bring mankind back to him.
He knows. He plays a Cosmic game of multi-dimensional, multi-level Chess that we can't even begin to fathom. Pardon the analogy.

I'm curious where the impetus came from to "edit" or "adapt" such sacred texts?
Yes, why is that. What ever happened to “obey” for the woman to say to her new husband in their vows?
Must have been a communist plot to destroy man from dictating to his wife to get his beer? Miss those days now we are ending up doing the dishes.
Hey! Klimmer who does the dishes up there in that Golden City of yours?

No you don't get to throw out the OT. It's literal history. It's also to show you that the wages of sin is death. Also without The Torah, we don't know the future. There is an incredible amount of prophecy hidden there within it's types and shadows of many things to come. It also teaches you exactly who Christ Jesus is within its text. The list can go on and on. You can't understand the NT without the OT. They go hand in hand. Also without The Torah, Bible Code as we know it wouldn't be known and/or be able to be searched.
Are there Books out there that should also be in the Bible? Yes, The Book of Enoch is one good example. The early Christian Church knew is was valid, as did Jewish faith fore-fathers, and Jesus even quoted from its text. There was a political and/or other evil reasons to leave it out. Someone didn't want us to know the full truth of Lucifer and his Fallen Angels.
