Oh good grief. This thing is over 200 posts? Really?? Well at least you all are having fun with a spirited debate.

Got to work, was swamped the whole time. Pretty much forgot about this whole thing until now and that's after a couple hours of post work chill time.

I guess I started this thread cause when I occasionally cruise by here in the mornings before work there's so many threads not related to climbing on the front page. And a lot of them have so much anger and negativity. Not a good way to start the day. I come here to get inspired about climbing and feel positive while I'm here in the city during the week. I vented my frustration. And the thread took on a life of it's own. For better or worse.

It's now Friday. I'm going climbing this weekend. I hope you all do the same. It'll make for a more positive vibe on this site.

I won't be coming back to this thread much. There's no point. I said my peace. So have fun, argue, debate, call each other names, share your opinions, whatever. At least you all seem to have an interest in where this site is going and I guess that's a good byproduct. Everyone's entitled to their opinions on that.

Just do me this one favor - get out and climb and share it here at some point. It will make for a better Supertopo. :)

And what's that got to do with anything? I never have either but I suspect I've picked up more trash in the valley than most that have gone to the face lift.

Oh man, Rokjox reappears as the voice of reason....

That is too funny man. Listen, I think it's fine for us all to be in a big ol' mixing bowl together. But you have online abused people for so long, that it's no surprise to me that you have attracted some incoming flak. Just look back at your previous work. Now you want the meanies cleaned up. Stick around. No reason to take your ball and go home.

Did I ever mention I love a little thread drift from time to time?

How about everyone that wants a climbing-only section bump every climbing related thread they can find so that the first page of threads is ALL climbing? That would be an interesting change to things; making the politico people go hunting for things to read.

Do it. Do it now.

30 posts in a row reading "bump" would be worse than a few off-topic threads.

Think about it.

OT threads suck but are better than a front page of climbing threads that were bumped? It's not like things would get stuck that way forever. I'd give it an hour before things were all back to "normal".

And holy cow, someone actually replied to one of my posts. That in itself makes the whole suggestions worth the effort to type it.

To be honest, I come to the taco and mostly to keep up on current events. CNN is boring and it's funny to read such extreme points-of-view that come from some of the locals. Climbing stuff is not very interesting and is a repeat of the same discussions over and over. I guess the "clash of civ..." threads are too.

Dave

P.S. I could just go bump 30 climbing threads myself. Would I get banned or just have my life threatened?

stzzo,

Um you might have met me at the Reeds parking lot eating breakfast or drinking post climb beverages during the face lift last year but I've never camped or hung with the face lift crew or participated. I really don't feel that one should have a special day to clean up crap. They should do it when they see it...I try to stay out of the park at night - that whole tool presence kinda creeps me out.

That said, there are many kevins out there.

Hell it could be my taco stalker impersonating me at the face lift...LMFAO

dave,

You wouldn't get banned, but what often happens is some tard bumps 30 plus non climbing threads then. But sometimes not.

Kev,

Happens often? No one would really have to forcibly bump the OT threads and they would end up at the top of the list so quickly that it would make your head spin.

I don't think I'd be mean spirited enough to actually do it. I wondered if anyone else would just go for it if the suggestion was made.

My vote on the original topic of conversation is to not have a separate area at all. I can go to rc.com for that but it's more fun to open the grab bag that is the taco and see what comes out.

Dave

P.S. There should be a special LEB area. That stuff is the most entertaining stuff around here.

For years I had asked that there be two forums - Climbing Stuff, and Non-Climbing Stuff. I hasn't happened, and it never will happen as long as Chris Mac is running the place.

Upon reflection, I now believe I was wrong.

I write big wall climbing posts from time to time in a few big wall climbing forums, like Mountain Project and Middendorf's big walls dot com. None of those places seem to attract the diversity of characters that this place does.

While I agree that the forum gets cluttered with a lot of non-climbing stuff, and I often miss good climbing posts, I can't deny that McTopo is working. It's a climbers' forum, not only a climbing forum. I guess is you want climbing forums, you can go elsewhere.

And now, I believe I shall go post a bible verse. So there.

Flouride's right. All the rest of you professional Supertopoers are wrong.
Just seperate the threads, then you can spew all you want. You handful of mostly guys now just innundate us with the shear volume of your crap. You're always available to pounce on every single post, as soon as it's posted. We're tired of hearing from the same, small group of bullies. Most of you have trashed LEB for doing the same thing you do.

I can't believe people don't have the self control to skip threads and posters they don't like. That's what this is about, it's not about having to click once to the 2nd page of topics.

I can't believe people are nasty to LEB or others they say they don't want to read. When I see a long LEB or Rokjox post I just skip it. Just ignore stuff you don't like, don't expect others to do it for you.

The prolific religion and politics posts are kept to a few threads. Self moderation in action.

But they're not, Fet. They're no longer the occasional. They are the majority of the threads. It's no longer about clicking through the pages of the post but instead you end up clicking through the pages of the threads.

Look, no matter what you post, your thread is instantly taken over by a bunch of kids in the back row, belching and farting into your topic. Nothing but one liner sarcasm. Sure a little humor is great but they take any serious discussion right out of each and every single post. This one for example.

It's not as if the finest threads disappear.

You can always find them, if you go back far enough - right to thread #1 if you're interested.

What bubbles up to the top is what's most interesting to most people right now. That's part of the beauty of the whole thing.

You're not going to get far swimming against that current.

Fair enough Fattrad.

Yeah Chaz, but in the meantime it's not worth the effort to wade through for some we want to hear from. Notice the lack of input now from the Rgolds, Jstans, Largos, and Jellos?

Arne,

OT are not the majority of threads. At least whenever I've looked the OT threads are defineatly the minority. The number of OT posts is higher than on topic for sure, because that's the nature of discussion, controversial OT topics generate the most posts. The climbing threads with the most posts are the controversial ones too, growing up, WoS, etc.

For OT posts in on topic threads seperating the forum won't help that.

You should try snowboarding. I mostly ski but snowboard when I go out with friends that can't keep up with me on skis ;-), it's 95% as good and a great change of pace.
