So, apparently, my cat has been taking selfies. Either that, or Apple iOS is messing with me.

Make it to the top? I'd like a story of somebody actually succeeding on that thing. So far anybody I've asked or watched has made to the upper "pod" at best.
Clearly I'm associating with the wrong people...

Gary Carpenter also makes it to the top of that PGSV crack when he's "in the groove"
hard men, if a little off (width)...
I've left a lot of elbow skin on the wall up there... wear long sleeves when you are working it...

Yayyyy.... I got "that thing" figured out and managed to get up it today without struggle/hang. Next up, will work on doing it faster, and maybe taking a selfie while at it. ;)
P.S. "that thing" has a name - Gary Crack. Yep, I said so.

I used to have that crack relatively wired, could get up it every session at least once. I did choke on it last time I tried it with Alexey last year... but I was pretty out of shape then.

I used to have [Gary Crack] relatively wired, could get up it every session at least once. I did choke on it last time I tried it with Alexey last year... but I was pretty out of shape then.
For me, it's all about figuring out the moves that work for MY size. The beauty of Gary Crack is there are a couple of hard moves for almost everyone of any size.
I regret, by going away from climbing, I have missed the golden era of the Bay Area OW climbing crew (such as you, Jaybro, Ed Hartouni, scuffy, etc. etc.) when people were doing field trip days on hard OW's. These days, it seems like you like-minded people have moved on. I'm sure there are still folks going after the OW's now, but most of the excitement-filled entertaining reads I can find and get inspired by came from you guys from three or four years ago.
Sorry, we went completely off topic on this Selfie thread. The above thought had been on my mind, but I didn't feel like starting a new thread of a climbing topic ("where are the wide people these days?") because they normally don't get traction these days. :p

Mei, when you completely wired Gary crack - please take a selfie at the its crux, and post on this tread, to make it back to the topic

I think there is still interest in OW, and a lot of young climbers have taken it all to the next level. When we started I never thought it would get so big...
...right now I have fond memories of that time, and a bag full of OW tricks to use. I'm always game for a pure OW problem, but I'm not in shape (and not only that, but I probably hurt my back from all the training and doing, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!).
I've been thinking of getting back in shape, but then there have to be partners who want to do it! Gary's woody, where we trained quite a lot, had a hand lettered inspiration sign:
"Pain is weakness leaving the body"
I spilled a lot of weakness there...

I got up the Gary crack clean once, back in the days Mei and Ed mention. I think may have done it more times than that, but repeats don't seem to take root (route) in my memory as much as the breakthrough moment., and I certainly remember close no goes before that.
I left the BAWC scene more or less in 2012. Too move closer to a wider assortment of wide cracks within a short distance. I've got more on my plate now than I can ever get to.
Ed what's the status of the wiggle in the wide project? I think that should definitely be seen through. Like "Fifty Classic Climbs" it's a reflection of more things than the nominal topic!
May the madness continue!
