fattrad, stay the f&ck out of this thread if you have nothing constructive to add. It's about Tacos, not about your Republican idealism that only those who make big money deserve health care.

Seriously, I already asked you in another post to start another thread if you want to debate the topic. I started this thread about my friend's condition and your politicizing the health care topic distracts from what 99% of us clicked on this thread for...which is updates on her condition.

Don't be a total dick. Show some respect and STOP IT now. Find another place to preach that only those with money deserve health care...i.e. deserve to live.

Now PLEASE, let's get back to the subject at hand and how Tacos is doing.

Profit is what generates innovation, how much will drug companies or device companies spend on R&D if there's no profit at the end.

Didn`t you see Sicko? Michael Moore showed the insanity of having profit connected to life and death situtions such as fire departments, law enforcement and health care. What you are saying and implying above - that all medical innovations will stop or greatly slow the moment someone or some institution is not making windmill pofits - is an old-school rationalization that, in fact, was never entirely valid. the people making the innovations in science are the scientists and they have never been profit driven.

Archaic, unregulated capitalism is what tanked the country and the old guard is not willing to give it up, But now we have to. But Iīm drifting. I know several word-class scientists at CalTech and JPL (Jet Propulsion Lab) who donīt make scads of money but are so psyched about their work they can barely stand it. It is the huge, ponderous layer of administrators that brush on the needless expenses and mark ups. California is broke but they are trying to go about the process backwards - they are firing the janitors, teachers, and workers, while trying to hang onto all the administration jobs.

Hw does American health care serve all Americans? Are we saying that only those who can pay the huge premiums deserve to live?

Do the Japanese complain about their healthcare system?

We are financially totally out of whack.

Hey valygrl:

Any updates on Taco's location and condition? I've been a bit under the weather the last week or so but plan to visit Wells Fargo on Friday.

John Penca

Thanks neebee. Feeling much better now. I was up on the east side over the 4th and and took a long hike up out of Little Lakes Valley. The sciatica or whatever is pretty much gone (walking appears to help the pain). Caught some upper respitory bug somewhere down the line but it is going away.

Any updates on Taco?

johntp, the email address I have for her is tacos_satoko@yahoo.co.nz -- I emailed to that address fairly recently and it didn't bounce - but I didn't get a response (not surprised there, not sure if she's able to read emails yet, but hopefully soon. And thanks so much for the monetary help!

That address I posted is the hospital in Tokyo - which I heard she might be moving from at some point. Sorry, that's all the info I can get right now.

Before she left, Tacos told my b/f how thankful she is for all the help and good wishes she's received from this community.

Drive safe everyone.

I just sent her a card by Japanese Express mail which she will get tomorrow evening if she stays in Tokyo just one more day.

I told her that I found out about her on ST and that there are many many people here wishing the best for her. That should help until all the cards and letters arrive from the States.

If you haven't sent her something already, it might help on this end if her name is written Japanese style with the last name first.

I got Fugimoto from the posting by Pennsylenvy but I notice now an email from Anna says Sugimoto. I can find Japanese with both names on the net ?? Two out of three postings say Sugimoto, so that's probably it.

One problem for contacting her directly is that a lot of Japanese hospitals do not have phones in the patient's room. if someone can get a family member's phone number somehow (her brother or parents), I will try to get a Japanese person to call them and find out what's happening. It's a lot cheaper to call from Okinawa and lots more Japanese speakers on this side.

HI Jan, thanks. I have an acquaintance who is going to be back in Japan next week who is going to try to contact Tacos at the hospital and get contact info for her brother or other family, and hopefully get me an update on her condition, which I'll pass along here.
