Well, not that anybody is counting but, technically, it’s only 144. 🤓

In their sweep of the Angels it was 27-3! They shoulda invoked the mercy rule.

I went to my annual Mariners game yesterday. The game was painful for this lukewarm Mariners fan(me), but I saw one of the stranger stretches of baseball.

4th inning, A triple play against Houston: runners on first and second, batter Gattis shoots a ball to Seager at 3rd, steps on 3rd, throws to 2nd for the second out. So that's 5-4 typical & clean DP, but the batter Gattis forgot(?) that there had been no outs, so after the DP he wandered across the infield to be tagged out after a confusing throw to first. You don't see one of those every day. That kept the Mariners in it, gave us hope as Marco Gonzales was actually pitching quite well.

Around that time a Mariner lined a ball off of pitcher Morton's back, only to have it caught on the fly by SS for an out. Somewhere in that stretch, there was a tailor made DP ground ball hit by Houston that M. Gonzales deflected to make everyone safe.

Houston is good though. In the 5th a couple misplayed balls and a mis-positioned outfield gave Altuve a 3 RBI double to right center field. Ichiro didn't play, and it ended up being 9-2 Houston. It was a spectacular day though. Marco Gonzales looked really good for 3 innings, I like seeing Altuve play, and one doesn't see a triple play very often.

PS: I don't like what Arizona did to the Giants!

Actually, they are playing so well they'll get back about 20 losses.

BoSox don't usually play well in the Coliseum, but they got the win tonight against the A's on two home runs, also rare for them at night there in the post Manny/Papi era.

I listened to it.

I almost always go the radio route rather than TV. Usually I'm working away with the game on in the background. But with this one I just lay on the couch and gave myself over to the action starting with the top of the 7th. Totally awesome. Then went back and watched the highlights once they got posted. Love the smile that breaks out on Manaea's face as the last out gets made. 6'5", 240-pound little leaguer who knows he just did something good. "The Baby Giraffe" is his clubhouse nickname, apparently, which is perfect.

And then Khris Davis mashed a 3-run job for the series win yesterday.

I'm already dreading November.

I only caught the botom of the eighth, on my drive back from the gym, when Price gives up the home run after a well pitched game (like Sales' game the night before).

A couple of years ago I looked at the Red Sox play at the Coliseum over the years, having had the feeling that they didn't really win much, and confirmed in the record just that... independent of how well either team did in a given year... probably more to do with the BoSox reliance on power hitting and the power-suck of the night air in Oakland, and maybe the lack of Oakland power pitching. You can't win if you don't score. Saturday's no-no was just a very well pitched game, props to Manaea, even if it makes him trade bait for Oakland.

2003 was a sweet exception, after loosing the first two playoff games in Oakland, Boston won the next two in Fenway, then came back for a day game (3:05pm start) with a dramatic end with a bit of controversy...

...not shown was the absolute silence before that last pitch, with 40,000+ fans in the stadium you could hear a pin drop, it was eerie. My daughter and I snuck out in a sea of very disappointed A's fans. While Red Sox nation showed up, they were very outnumbered by A's supporters (unusual, when these teams meet it's usually a BoSox fan filled stadium). I remember the Baby Ruth candy bars being thrown into the Red Sox dugout by literate A's denizens.

Still waiting for another playoff series between these two clubs...

Anybody hear anything about Tyler Wade with the Yankees? He's the son of a guy I work with. Really nice family and it looks like Tyler may hit the big time! Exciting stuff! Keep an eye on him

Ed, Manaea won't be traded for a couple of years yet, so don't get covetous.

He's staying in Oakland for now. (I predict three more seasons.)

tradryan,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but young Mr. Wade just got sent down to AAA yesterday.

The Evil Empire brought up their second base prospect, one Gleyber Torres.

It seems that Aaron Boone likes his versatility though.

I likely saw him play in Trenton (Yankees AA team) 2 years ago, but I don't recall.

The Dodgers have a catcher playing 2nd tonight? With the money they throw around
that’s the best they can do? What would Yogi have said?

Damn, that was the first I heard of it. I was never much of a baseball guy but I did go to a bunch of Trenton Thunder games growing up. My Dad loved the minor leagues for the lack of traffic, ease of getting in and getting out.

Da Bums lose 2 outta 3 to the Marlins, at home? Really?
Kershaw has really perfected his Meat pitch - served up a juicy one last night to get his record to 1-4!

April 2018 will be the first month in the long history of MLB when there will be more strikeouts recorded then hits.
