I'm a little surprised no one has commented on ' Foreign climbers should treat American climbers with more respect than American climbers should treat American or foreign climbers because Supertopo is an American website. Supertopo is the home of American climbers and the forum is their main meal.'
I've met and climbed with a lot of Americans, and not a single one of them has ever espoused this idea or attitude in any way (other than in jest). However, as I'm sure many of you know, a lot of people all over the world think that this is a general American attitude held towards everyone and everything.
I know that's not true, and I challenge that assumption in others whenever I encounter it. What I'm saying, Marlow (whether you're American or not), is be careful how you suggest "rules" to and for others, and how you summarise what you feel the general "mood" is. You run the risk of reinforcing some very negative stereotypes.

I agree when it comes to being careful not to reinforce stereotypes. Lolli's cartoon excepted.
The two summaries in this thread contain nearly every rule suggested through the whole thread, but not any of the three examples of possible rules from the first post.
Weschrist, if I understood him right, supported the last American "exceptionisme" rule. Though it may be an exception, not a rule. Maybe it is a flexible unwritten guideline to be broken.

The bush summary is taken right out of the discussion, but maybe a bit of revision is needed.

More of the fact that I don't have functioning sperm to give but everything else is a go. Well, except for another SUPER BIG part which is the fact that I have a beautiful and dangerous spouse who can do massive damage to me with just a few words. Yes, I'm in love.

we do have one rule here at the super taco,
#1- Don't steal the toilet paper.
"The three went into the bathroom and emerged carrying about a dozen rolls of toilet paper. They got in a car in the parking lot, but didn't get far.
Albuquerque police apparently already had the trio under surveillance and quickly surrounded the car and arrested them.
The toilet paper was returned to its rightful owner."

Stich,
Crimpie's Dr. Kodos comment made me wonder too, and I'm glad you asked:
Dr. Kodos? Crimpie, you mentioned "Don't spam the site" and then him. What did you mean by that? I missed out on all of that.
Maybe she meant 'flaming'. I don't recall Dr. Kodos spamming (trying to sell products or services), so much as 'flaming' and trolling. He was good at trolling and unmerciful in flaming those he hooked. He could provoke anyone and sometimes everyone on ST and other climbing websites.
Perhaps another rule unwritten is: Don't flame those you troll.

Rock climbers are all about rules for some bizarre reason. I've never seen a sport/hobby group with more unwritten rules than in rock climbing.

One rule should be that you would never write anything here that you wouldn't say to that person's face.
Another rule should be that you can't hide behind a screen name, that you should have to post under your real name.
