I went home to Colorado, it was balls cold ~ I freeze up there every time, and doesn't help that the parents keep the heat cranked up to a low of 60! But I can't complain because of pretty snow that occurred, good family time. Back now, and yes in Phoenix, it's still a little cold for my taste ;-)

i think of the sad barista,
behind an ambitious counter
that entertains no customers.
it was her dream.
she wanted to offer her community
a coffee shop that heralded
a playfulness of emotions.
and a freeness of being.
though no one took.
her culture was all wrong.
she was at the opposite end
of her destiny,
and as such,
an acrid pill she swallowed.
i walked in.
and recognized immediately
my soul mate.
so we shared burnt coffee
and a stale pastry.
no words were exchanged
though we stared forever
into.
because it had cost us
both a helluva lot
to arrive at that moment.
and we were exhausted.
that girl is now my wife
and the mother of my two
daughters.
and we rearranged fates
such that tomorrow invited us
and then wined us
and we have,
in our hands and in our hearts,
warmth.
