So I'm missing my dogs tonight because I'm in the wrong city, in fact on the wrong coast, once again. It's always worth a smile to check in on this thread.
Yo Chaz, how come you got all these aerial photos of Dobermans at lighthouses? I know the aerial part has to do with kites, and your doggies are Dobermans ... but I'm missing the big picture of what's going on. You're surely the only guy on the planet with a collection of dog pictures like that.
cheers,
L

Thanks, DT. I had no clue the thread would have such legs, when I started it off philosophically after a no-longer-a-puppy moment in Jack's life. But of course, everyone who's loved a dog knows those moments.

I'll bet you're right, Chiloe. I can't remember ever seeing another aerial photo of a dog.
Mine are mostly happy accidents.
The first three are the first dog aerials I took. I was taking pictures of a house for a realtor, and I thought I'd horse around and get a few shots of my dog.
They turned out better than I would have guessed.
This next one I got one day waiting for a train to go by, but trains weren't running that day - at least not while I was there:
It's the shadow that makes the shots. The ones I save are usually the ones with a cool shadow.
My favorite dog aerial I got at the dry lake on the 247, north of Lucerne Valley:
Once again, I was there to take pictures of something else, but those didn't work out.
Sometimes, your best subject is the one you bring with you.
Lighthouses? I've found lighthouses work great for kite areial photos ( KAP ). So I stop at every one I think might work for KAP when I drive up the coast each summer from So Cal to see my folks in Washington.
This year I wanted to keep track of every lighthouse I attempted to KAP, so I took a photo my dog at every lighthouse I stopped at. That's where the lighthouse-dog shots in this thread came from. I have more, I'm breaking them out one-at-a-time. We're working our way north. We're at Point Cabrillo right now.
Like the vegas-matchbook strategy, where you get a book of matches at every casino you stop at so you can keep track of where you've been when you wake up the next afternoon.
