Bouvier des Flanders , herding dog from northeastern France/Belgum interesting history: they were nearly wiped out during WWI hauling wounded from the front. They're a working dog from way back to the middle ages, hauled carts of milk, herded oxen and were property protectors. Some western European countries use them as police dogs. Legend has it during WWII Hitler ordered to kill all Bouvier's on sight having been bit in the ass as a child.

Works for me, I like to think Gus is related to the beast that did the deed. The most common color Is black and traditionally they cropped the ears. Ours are fawn colored, great dogs indeed.

We got him at the pound. A little impulsive/excitable, but a really sweet dog. I've heard that it's part of the chocolate phenotype.

He was named Bentley. My wife thought it sounded too sophisticated, thus he became Benny. It took me a while to think. My mom saw that he is an English Lab. From his looks, he may have cost a pretty penny. Then again, maybe they just liked the name Bentley.

I had a lab growing up (much more mellow). I kind of wanted to get a pack of Chihuahua's. There are lots at the shelters these days, and I thought they would require about as much as 1 larger dog. I thought of naming them Frankie, Dean, Sammy, and Joey. Needless to say the wife won.

Anyway, we sometimes call Benny "Gravy Train". It amazes me what people will do for their dogs. Then again, I liked the story Charlie. If I ever see a Bouvier, I'll toss 'em a biscuit if I have one.

Labs are great dogs, we had Abby for 15 years. She was crazy with energy and really enjoyed long days in the mountains, hiking, climbing and skiing. Here's Gus as a pup with our late beasts:

I think I like dogs more than I like most people....

Dude at work asks me why I'm not going to the company TurkeyFest in the caffeteria. I tell him, "I'm anti-social, I hate that kinda crap".

Maybe it's just certain people. After all, I love a good TacoFest in Yellow Pines with mostly strangers.

I dunno. Never met a dog I didn't like though.

There is a picture of his head, he is a pound dog who was alleged to be an Australian shepard mix who would grow to about forty pounds. I think he is a lab mix.

Ohhhhh. Smooches. Smooches. I don't care if Dr. Oz debunked the " dogs' mouths are cleaner than a humans". Their spirit is more pure.

Doughnutnational's pound dog looks like mine in profile: german shepherd/border collie mix that must be run 5 or more miles a day, otherwise she becomes neurotic and paces, or shadows me, as i like to call it.. This is her 6th year with me and she still has one speed: go. Blessing or curse? Couple that with decent canine intellegence, and its like having an energetic child that likes to run and run and run. She can boulder slabs and climb ladders too. Odd animal.
