It's true! There are more dancing monkeys in the Yosemite backcountry than there are psycho killers, wolves or interplanetary vivisectionists. Save your ammo; leave your gun at home. Enjoy the dissolution of paranoia.

I went through AK as well as the western states, including yosemite this fall... I would feel justified carrying in any and all of those places knowing that no one out there would be worse off for my having done so...on the other hand, I do know that there are a lot of people of whom the same could not be said...

After being robbed and losing a grands worth of gear on said trip, I will certainly be packing, though no one will be any the wiser to that fact unless they really earn the privilege of finding out...

I guess the answer was "no", roehl, you didn't read it.

And you keep talking about "backcountry".
I'm not sure what planet YOU come from, but here in the old US of A the parks get millions of visitors, on roads, with like, small cities in them.

I too was mauled.

Now I've got it! Lycanthropes! Wolves that transform into serial killers! Wow, now I'm convinced too Rox. I'll never go outdoors again.

Well, at least not until I get my cast off and get to stop using crutches.

I have to admit that jerking your chain certainly added an element to being trapped inside watching football all day.

Thanks!

Still as it stands it is illegal to carry a firearm into a federal building, i guess we can all hang out in the visitor centers and not have to worry about this issue at all!

Does the park service own the structures the concessionaires operate out of? I think they do, but I'm not sure, it would be a pain in the ass taking your gun on and off to buy ice, and once the weapon is unconcealed it becomes illegal!

Here’s a small pack, west of Idaho Falls, photographed a few weeks ago. The transplanted wolves have moved onto the plains, sagebrush deserts, riparian lands as well as the mountains.

In Idaho, the issue is less about FEAR than about SELF-AUTONOMY. The Federals introduced a foreign subspecies into Idaho wilderness with little regard for Idahoan’s wishes. (These are not wolves that overran Yellowstone borders). These wolves, from Canada, were not introduced to states other than Idaho and Wyoming.

The government called it “Wolf Reintroduction”. The introduced subspecies,Canis Lupus Occidentalis, were NEVER, in fact, native to Idaho. The subspecies that IS native to Idaho, Canis Lupus Nubilus, still existed in small numbers in Idaho wilderness. Idaho Fish and Game and local wildlife biologists both agreed there was a viable population of these native wolves and local hunters and packers commonly saw them.

But with millions of dollars at stake for the “reintroduction “contractors, someone declared Canis Lupus Nubilus extinct in Idaho. And the gov't went full speed, with backing from out-of-state granolas, introducing the non-native subspecies. Estimates of the total federal money spent to “reintroduce” and track wolves in Yellowstone and Idaho run between three hundred million to over a billion dollars.

Man, this just gets better and better! Pretty soon those wolves are going to have their own "black helicopters".

Carry on!

Well, I'm Pro-wolf. Eff those damn sheep, I'd kill'em myself.
Livestock in a 'so-called' wild or wilderness area is a crock. Open desert & grassland areas, included. They're dinner. Nuff said.
Bonapetit'!.
I miss 'em, too.

Be careful which sheep you eat, Skully. The newspapers say anonymous leaflets are circulating the state giving step-by-step on the poisoning of wolves with sheep carcasses.
