ksolem-- From Afar looks amazing! Gorgeous rock, great line.

grahamn: cowboy alps are in the high sierra. but some of the rock does look a bit like the really good rock on top of winchester mt. or maybe eagle

that little block at gibbel rd is a registered archeo site, so i wasnt sure if it was still there. since there wasn't a gym, we did stacks of eliminates on that thing

well its not as if they could just move it.

thought about it many times. a more aesthetic woody.

if you could put all the best boulders in those hills into one spot, you'd have a destination area.

yeah we've uncovered a few new ones in simpson park. if they were in Jtree theyd be considered classics and would have chalk all over them.

Im really excited about the new problems we put up at the Leon rocks especially since there arent a ton of rocks there but we're pulling decent stuff out of them... Most of them are all really unique: ie slab to face to slopey rail for one, thin face to long slopey rail, 15 foot double mantles, lots of hard slab, a problem that goes 16 foot overhanging 10d (or 12b depending on how you climb it) to a mantle then to a committing 4 foot move to the top (either dyno or stand up with little for your hands to hold on to), lots of interesting traverses, etc.

did you ever go over to red mountain east of there? i wanted to check it out but didnt know what id find.

Kurt, it'd be great to get some more info on what you can remember y'all did out in the Humbugs. Need to drag you out there for an extended walking tour someday...

as for the Mount C guess in Kevin's pic...close but not Mount C
looking sketchy there...

Sorry, the compression kills the detail. The arrow points to Chelsea Griffie, I am just above in the overhangs.

Here's the whole climb:

back to the Wild granites-in Nevada-near impossible to get to, long drive, then a looong walk across a hot plain full of sage and prickers. Only gone near the base and then had to fall back due to time constraints...

a lot of growers. as least there used to be.

gilje took me 1st time. after that i went maybe 5 or 6 more times, if i was doing something else out there. some big blocks, cracks, a bit more like juniper flats than simpson. i found a fixed pin that looked at least 20 yrs old.

Loomis I know that exact crag in the last shot. Too bad the approach from the car is so long.

It looks like a tall boulder problem to maybe get some pro in the horizontal and then hopefully tie off some knobs.

Did you check out that free standing obelisk thing just up the way?

Locals call that the blessed virgin mary. I don't know why.

Tom, you mean this one?
Too bad the all day drive and two day hike will keep most out.
