The two Koreas kiss and make up.
And a pledge to rid the peninsula of Nukes.
The prospect of the Donald getting involved was apparently too scary for both sides..
But... wasn’t this a United Nations action? (NSC 68)

Hope this whole thing works out, kinda hard to focus with the threat of nuclear war hanging over the entire continental Us.

It would be great, but while there are a lot of unhatched eggs, there is also a lot of chicken counting going on.

Because I don't know, would this bring about a united Korea?
If this comes to pass, I think it's less about nukes, and more about economic incentives.
Maybe Kim Jung Un heard rumblings of a coup d' etat.

I hope it's genuine, too, but think all involved, including NK, should take Teddy's advice (I think it was he), and Speak softly and carry a big stick.
Just in case, because to me, it seems that this sudden turn towards peace is a little too sudden, all things considered.

Above is a interesting perspective on Korea.
Both the leaders are afraid that Trump will do something impulsive, leading to the deaths of many of their people, so they have a common interest in preventing this from happening. Also, it is beginning to dawn on Kim that radiation isn't good for you. GOOGLE "The Downwinders" and you will see what it did for people in Nevada who lived too close to the test sites. One person said they kept going to their HS reunion and most people seemed to be dying in their mid to late 50's.

In a confrontation, there's a definite advantage to your opponent thinking you're crazy.

That was my method in high school.
Mostly worked.

How do you think I retired undefeated? I may not have been the craziest person in the room when trouble broke out in the bars I worked, but I certainly wanted everyone to think I was.

Any peace in Korea will be a charade as long as Kim remains in power. The real victims are not us or the South Koreans, it is the North Koreans that are paying the price. Kim is not giving up power, or the nukes that keep him in power.

I hope it's genuine.
It's not. Kim is not going to unify the peninsula even if he were to denuclearize. And he will only dismantle his ballistic missiles and warheads if he can exact a high enough price from the U.S., China, and Russia. Short of that, it's not going to happen.
To be optimistic necessarily means believing Donald and our military will be willing to pay whatever extortionate price Kim intends to collect.

It’s hard not to see it as a positive step, but I expect we have the skills to manage that.
Hopefully the high enough price we have to pay is less than the price the North Korean people have been paying. To have both Trump and Kim redeemed as good leaders for their respective people would be pretty impressive, but if needed, I expect we’ll have the skills to avoid seeing that as well.
The duck’s not all that prone to handing out lollipops, and it seems like neither Trump nor Kim are either. But if not handing out lollipops is what it takes to get to peace, well f*#k me dead, won’t that just piss all over my self-righteousness?

Dingus Milktoast:
A big distraction, signifying nothing beyond geopolitical maneuvers. My nationalistic fervor is not stoked by such fake fears. This was exactly my opinion.
However my friend (who has much better understanding of Koreans) believes that there is a chance that they have a deal:
South brings North to their standard of life and ensures peaceful retirement of Kim in exchange for North's nuclear and missile technology.
I doubt very much that US can prevent this from happening (if this is a real plan).
To me this is a scary sheet.
