And now for a different take - one that is a closer reference phonetically to the Largo thread:

"That's a fertile field to be mined, Mister E", whined Mr. Magoo.
It ain't no wind tunnel, it's an electrical winding.

Digging into Ed Hartouni's second link, the mesmerizing one, I saw this nifty item.
A wind map.
http://memory.org/point.b/windmap.html
By moving the mouse over the map, the observer is able to see the varying windspeeds as well as their directions.
So, thank you, EhD.

Oh yeah? I wound up my mouse and put it on the picture and not a thing happened that I could see. Maybe it's the cataracts.

BTW, please allow me to introduce Frances z Brown
You can twitter her here:
@franceszbrown
I think it works like this, but I'm kind of naive when it comes to twittering

One of her interests.

How is this related to wind, mind, whined, mined?
Ya got me there.
She and I both wish the mfm a happy birthday, even if he is in Zaatari.

Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

after you wind, you can count it... it is quantifiable... (Ed)
If you're not careful you'll lose your individuality and end up integrated.

adak naval air base, out on the aleutian chain made the base closure list after having housed quite a few sailors, like 6,000 at maximum capacity. over the years the navy, having considerable transport capability, delivered private vehicles for some well placed officers who found themselves placed, well, on adak where not many further miles got racked up.
the winter i spent there was the first opportunity for civilians to occupy the island after the navy left and one destination for a stroll where imagination ran free was the impoundment, the resting spot if you will, of those vehicles that never left. it was like a wrecking yard devoid of wreckage or dismantlement.
not to say that the record wasn't replete with evidence of the attempted dismemberment of some inspiring rides. whatever my personal experience of aleutian winter, the accumulated effect of it on nearly every door jamb and hinge in that lot spoke BIG WIND in physically articulate terms

You know your Endicott Period forts!
Battery Worth, Battery Moore, and Battery Kingsbury off in the distance.
Battery Worth:
No enemy soldier, surface vessel, or aircraft ever made it past this position.

I've still got you beat on West Coast lighthouses, I think, as I've been to Cape Beale. :-)
