A guy who knew I was a climber brought into me two black and white posters of Warren Harding on the ascent of the Wall of the Early Morning Light. both posters are different. One of the posters is signed by Warren Harding. They are in good shape, and pretty cool. Has anyone ever seen these before? The old guy said he used to own a ski shop and was at a trade show where Warren was and he got the poster and Warren signed it for him, and he has kept it all these years. He would like to sell them now and I told him I would find out if anyone is interested in making a offer. Anyone??

There is one thing you can say about Warren, like in that first poster.
He is defintly going up..that does not look like a man who will retreat.

Probably not too many of them around today. How about making them a donation to the ChickenSkinner for museum???

Edit Ken would send a receipt and it would be a tax deduction - though he would need to able to itemized his tax return.

They are not mine, but yes, a old guy who is retired and I think he could probably use the money. I call him a "old guy" as don't have permission to use his name on the internet but with the posters would come his name and story of meeting Warren, "the provenance". I told him maybe $50-, so that is what he is hoping for or whatever he can get.

If I talked him into donating these posters to Chicken Skinner museum, would he get a tax deductible receipt? Would they be displayed in Yosemite somewhere he could view them?

I agree that it wasn't a climb to celebrate. However, for its historical significance, its a big deal. That route to me is the culmination of the passing of the guard and the embodiment of Hardings style - A whole lot of bolts and determination. He took that long night drilling on the nose and turned it into another route, one which even Royal was impressed by the climbing on.

Love the sinner hate the sin. I don't have much but I would put fifty bucks on that first poster.

donini- "Was not a climb to commemorate"

GDavis- "one which even Royal was impressed by the climbing on"

I recall one evening, mid.'70's, in the old Mountain Room Bar , were the conversation had become hot and heated concerning WotEML. I will just say this, individuals from both the first and second ascents (erase the route) were present at one time or another, through out the evening.

What became apparent was that Robbins had become more respectful of the first ascent team after the initial bolt ladder pitches, and quit chopping after 3 pitches or so. Stating that he wished he had never chopped the first couple.

It was also apparent that one climber (as you may recall first ascent team was Warren H./Dean C.) had remarkable skills, and the other was sorely lacking. For, one pitch would be superbly led, and the next poorly so (bolts next to cracks). Amounting to the much deplored, over-bolting controversy.

Perhaps these posters should be a commemoration to the man and his contribution to climbing. Rather than to the climb, which time has not forgotten.

Regarding my previous post.

Somewhere in Proverb's it says, "it's best to let sleeping dogs lie".

But since I may have already stepped on ones tail, I would like to add this analogy.

I can only wonder how Mr. Harding felt, in retrospect, after that climb (WotEML), and for the remainder of his life.

It must somehow parallel the way an American soldier felt, after he initially gave his all for his country, and then in those final hours of war, for his comrades by his side.

And then, to arrive home, and be spit on, and called a baby killer.

An American soildiers, welcome home from 'Viet Nam'.

An American climbers, farewell to the 'Valley'.

Yeah Guido, a bad hair day. You have to give Warren his due- he was a tough s.o.b. who did it his way.

So what's going on here?
(I already have both)
