A simple statistical analysis shows that non-climbing threads get FAR more hits than climbing related ones. Has there been a subtle but substantive shift in ST demographics, or have climbing related threads not been creative enough?

Sometimes they are Fabulous.
A couple were boring.
Maybe we need to get out more? Not you Jim, I think you probably get out plenty. Cheers!

Yes.

Frankly the only climbing worth writing about is the climbing you would prefer to forget. But to write about that effectively you have to be able to write well. If we want to forget about just 5% of our climbing and if only 5% of us can write well......you do the math.

For many of us, the time spent dealing with "other topics" by far outweighs the time we spend climbing.
Jim, just consider yourself blessed!

7/23/43 Dingus. Captain, I do get out, I'm leaving shortly for 6 days in the desert- babysitting Jay Smith, both of our wives are on road trips. Last week we had the second annual International Climbers Meet in Indian Creek. Great event! When I get back I'll do a TR on it.

How about a thread about what you climbed last, Jim?

I climbed at Indian rock yesterday, great fun, not sure how entrancing a story it would be, though.

Say hi to Jay for me.

We are overdue for an Indian rock exposé.
Notwithstanding those old-school black-and-white photos which showed up a few months back....

The real problem is that trip reports just aren't controversial enough. Get a good, controversial, climbing topic (somehow in my 42 years of climbing, bolts remain in the center of controversy) and you'll not only get plenty of hits, you'll get plenty of comments.

In truth, I read every trip report and just about every climbing thread. Even though I skip a lot of OT threads, my knee-jerk desire to comment is greater on them, because everybody else is just so wrong :D!

Caightinside, makes a valid point here. There does seem to be a greater number of posters. When I first joined the forum, at least the climbing topics stayed at the top of the page for a little longer than they do now. Now days it seems that no sooner does a climbing thread reach the top or gets posted it goes down in a heartbeat to the middle of the page.

Some of the OT stuff is ok, We have had this discussion on this forum many times before and to be honest this place would be pretty boring if it were just about climbing all the time. However with that being said I do agree that when a climbing topic gets posted maybe just maybe people take the time to read it and if so feel inclined add a comment or two and not just push another political rant to the top. just my 2 cents worth.

genuine question:

Is it lame to post TR's of unsuccessful, failed-to-meet-objective trips?

pls advise

Well .....

I just came from the cafe about 30 minutes or so ago and there's the usual sh'it talkin and slander going down mixed in with the normal other bullsh'it.

Got to stay up with the current affairs ya know.

They'll all be in a blank stare in a few more hours, drooling out of the side of the mouth as they watch this storm wash the world away.

Updates will come from IPhones from people floating away .....

That could be entertaining or dull, it depends ... the story counts more than the summit here. Give it a try.

I'd probably post some trip reports, but I never take a camera with me climbing, or just forget it every time.

Also, my stunning ascents of various moderates at lovers leap are probably not drool inducing like a lot of the good trip reports you see here.

Eh, probably your right jim. I moved out to JT for the winter, have barely had time to myself, much less time to write anything useful. Idle hands are work of the devil, or some such nonsense... besides, nothign in JT that I'm doing is worth writing about. Well, except the gorgeous weather and the lunch breaks I spend in my new playground.

yeah reddirt, as long as there is a compelling story in there, it's a go.

We got a little milage out of being scared off of the 10.d, x slab on Boa. Though Russ said it best, on the Widefetish...
