Hi all - next Tuesday at 7pm, I will be at the Berkeley REI for a two-part presentation. The first part will be a brief slideshow that goes over the new Wilderness designated in the Eastern Sierra this year, with particular attention to the adventure possibilities available in each.

The bulk of the evening will be a screening of what is believed to be the first color film taken of climbing in Yosemite Valley. In 1966, Allen Steck was part of a team which made the 3rd ascent of the Salathe Wall, and filmed various parts of the climb. In the past few years, Allen and Steve Roper worked with a film editor to assemble a film from the footage, with narration. There will be a Q&A at the conclusion of the film.

Come out and see us....and if you can help me out by bumping this along for the next week, and posting to any other forums or lists where people might be interested, I would appreciate it.

Questions, hit me at work - darren at friendsoftheinyo dot org

It's a very cool film - saw it in Yosemite last year. An excerpt is now being shown at the Autry Museum, as part of the Granite Frontiers exhibit. http://www.autrynationalcenter.org/granitefrontiers/

Definitely worth seeing. Watched an early version a couple of years ago when we lasted visited Allen, and was completely blown away.

If there is any possible way for you to get to Berkeley for this, then you owe it to yourself to be there.

Saw Allen climbing in Bezerkely Iron works, this morning. Still at it, almost 60 years after the Steck Salathe.

Indian Rock is swell for a quick hit. And historic by American standards: Brower, Steck, Salathe, etc.

if I can get there early enough, I'm pretty sure Allen would be happy to join in for some climbing at Indian Rock. Even if he does not climb, he'll be happy to hang out with climbers.

Yikes, you guys don't need my encouragement to keep bumping this, evidently.....

That'd be very kuehl.

Lynne-- I-Rock is really user friendly. There's a reason it's been popular since the 1930s.

Ok, this has taken on a serious note. Will check work tomorrow and make sure they will let me out of my cage for a few days. I'll see if I can find shelter in Bezerkley, :D and get manifestos signed in yo blood that you won't laugh at my feeble strolls up the rock.

First: Climb

Second: Beer Pubs

Last: Slide show

Nice Work Agenda. Does the Board move to approve ?

Forts are Good. I have my pad and bag. Also truck or van that works well to sleep in a driveway. This just sounds like fun and a great gathering. I think I may have some crash pads. Will check my sources. Peace and hope it will unfold. :D

Hmmm... I live a mile from Indian Rock so I guess I could inconvenience myself to wander over that way :)

I was planning to leave Monday or Tues for Tioga Pass camping with the kids; maybe we'll wait until after the show.
