40 years ago yesterday, 7-16-69 to 7-16-09, Apollo 11 blasted off the Moon . . .
In honor of this historical mission that resulted in Man stepping and walking on the Moon I wanted to start this thread. There is a lot to discuss about this historical event that occured 40 years ago and what it means to us today, and what it means for our future.

And this is especially for WB here at ST:

We went there. We landed. We walked around and explored. We picked up rocks. And we safely returned. End of story. No conspiracies or filming in Hollywood or Area 51, were necessary (this time).
(Actually, most people don't know this, but that isn't the full story. Neil Armstrong also did the first B1 Moon boulder problem. But hey, he is really an understated kind of guy, he doesn't like to brag. NASA honor and hope to die, with my fingers crossed, and right hand on a Mason Bible this is true!)

Mythbusters ran a great special on the conspiracy theories debunking every one of them.

Man HAS NEVER set foot on the Moon, It was a massive HOAX.
If you believe man set foot on the Moon you are a fool.
We did put rockets into orbit. But the Van Allen radiation belt could not be breached.

They never went.
I 100% guarantee it.
Maybe Rahu, but not to the moon (Chandraloka). Below the sun is the planet known as Rāhu.
Those who are supposed to be going to the moon may actually be going to this invisible planet Rahu. The movements of Rāhu cause both solar and lunar eclipses.
"Sunday, Monday," means first sun, then moon.
The sun is calculated to be 93,000,000's miles from earth, the moon is still farther from the sun 1,600,000 miles. Chandraloka (moon) can not be obtained by mere mortals.
They have not gone .......

How about SOME of them, and only ones involving photographs.

Klimmer are you saying that you actually believe we landed on the moon?

This is just like all the 911 conspiracies...If you want to believe something you'll pick and choose your evidence until you actually swallow your own B.S.
Mythbusters debunked all the major claims that are easily testable. What this tells me is that the conspiracy theorists make up as many claims as possible to post hoc rationalize their previously established views, even in the face of overwhelming counter evidence.

Port, I hear what you are trying to say, but people who use the word "all" so much have their own problems with reality. I'm not de-bunking your beloved Mythbusters--just YOU.

I didn't say they "proved" anything...I said they debunked. Science never proves anything, nor can it disprove. And yes, I agree MBs is a far cry from scientific purity. But Im not aware of anyone who has actually tried to test any argument...the sides just lobby insults and propaganda.
They did more than just look at pictures. They also tested the foot print. It was argued that the footprint could not possible result in such a perfect form. However when conducted in a near vacuum it did.
All I'm saying that that I think we did land on the moon. The evidence I see points this direction and I havn't seen any information that would disconfirm this hypothesis.
Im going climbing till sunset. Enjoy!

Goddard Proved it is impossible to reach extreme altitudes and rockets cannot function in a vacuum.

Port, the myth of the foot print depth and clarity could be debunked by a 7th grade science class--however, did they address the issue of soil moisture content on the lunar surface (not talc or mud, btw) regarding it?
I'll have to watch some more of them, pretty interesting stuff.
edit: watched the entire episode on all of the moon landing "debunkings"
I'm siding with Rox on this one--very weak, but good entertainment by special effects guys and gals--mostly proves that it COULD be faked/hoaxed by experts, hmmm...

Meanwhile back down on earth 40 years ago today, I'm with my old buddy at Camp 4 in Bridwell's old green Sears tent with him holding court, good God was it hot in there. Imagine the scene out of Animal House with us youngsters asking if we'll go psycho! We didn't (I don't think) but managed to wonder over to the store for some ice cream and there it was, headlines with that shot of Armstrong steping down onto the moon. We burst into laughter when someone says, "Holy cow another soft landing on the moon!" It still makes me laugh to this day :^)
