Do people lack creativity in which they gotta use route names already established or are they flat out genuinely lazy these days?

'Thief In The Night'.....used at 4 different climbing areas.
'Nosferatu'.....3 different area (all in Cali)

Maybe they think they're more creative than they actually are.....

Where might I find the universal route name database, so I can cross reference all of the potential names floating around my head?

Anyway, there is nothing even slightly creative or original about naming a route after a movie, song, book, painting, ect. ect.

Rabid fly swimming in donkey jizz...that's original!

Sheesh, it's crazy isn't it?
Must be at least 3 or 4 routes called "Snackin' with Oprah" out there! :)

Seriously though, an online route database would be quite helpful in double checking the originality factor. With SO many routes out there now, kinda like band names, URLs, etc. - it's increasing difficult to dream up something truly unique.

I copied a really cool route name from Eric Clapton once. Then years later, someone else
copied the same name for a route on Half Dome, and naturally I thought "How unoriginal!"

I thought long and hard about a route I named one time. Totally original, until I found out there were at least two other routes by that name, including one on the Diamond.

Still a good name, though.

There very well could be. But far less likely then compare to say route names like.....'Fill In The Blank' ;)

please....

most common: The Trough

most common easy long route ascencionist: Fred Becky

Black Tide or Stichter Quits?
I think that was John Long and Phil Warrender, excellent.

Rob Slater, Randy leavitt, and an unnamed third party climbed a block in the wonderland dead cold still snow on the ground winter day, called the thing "The Fridge"
third party wanted to call the left and right routes Bill and Perry, Randy reported left and right, guess it would have been too much fun.

Would you call your pet project after a route on El Cap? I know there are a few "Nose" routes. But Wings of Steel??????

In western Colorado we used to get a kick out of naming mungy crap routes after classics in Eldo. This was fun for a couple of days but then we ran out of drugs.

HA!! Mooch told me of a route named "Porn-Star Razor Stubble".

That is pretty creative. Especially when they shave little designs.

Farewell to Arms seems to be quite a popular name...........( I do believe there is only one Dingo Ate My Floater or Let's F*#k the Crackwhore.....two of my favorite route names.....)

Tiki's alive!! Yeah!!

Nah, Ger.....that's a root we have YET to put up. Ideally a root that follows a "wadi" with small chickenheads on the outside. ;)
