My wife has taken to calling my son Layton and I "Block" and "Chip".....

We've had a good laugh and it seems to be taking hold.

Here's Chip.

Here's Block.

We call my son "Bobcat" since when he was learning to crawl, he'd kinda paw and bat at things like a cat.

My daughter is "Scrub Jay" since she likes to sneak up and steal things from the table when no one is looking and then puts up a big fuss if caught.

Both are very outdoorsy (natch!) so they work.

I was always the one coming up with nicknames for people at work, but most of those are in the "you hadda be there" category.

A friend's kid refers to her siblings as Butt Nugget, Pig Drool, and Fish Face. Not bad for 8 years old.

Wife Molly calls our daughter Lyddie:

Lyddie-boba-diddy

Not the best, by any stretch, but I think that it's cute.

hey there .... our kids had some nickncames... but dont use them now, as adults...

kid #1-- was sparky the eagle... as he was always alert and trying to soar... now, his nickname is done the spanish way, a piece of the name, used, from the whole (just like in english)

kid #2--was thumper, first, due to her loud foot-fall on the floors when she was learning to walk (all my kids learned to walk when barefoot and never wore baby shoes, and she just had wider feet---and thumped.. (kind of like the rabbit, in the bambi movie, i reckon you'd day).. and then, later, we called her "cha-cha"... due to her name, and how we played with her, with dances...

kid #3--was rainy... due his name, too, and actually, he DOES still use it, as it is very similar to his name...

kid #4---the kids started this one... they called him "the scientist" cause he like to read, and then later, they called him "mr. nintendo" since he could always fix all the games that had then first started coming out, and he could win them all (though, we never let them play more than an 3-5 hours, perhaps twice a week)... good thing, too, or we would have lost him to the games... but----we, the parents, called him, "mr. america" as it sounded similar to this name....

all the grankids, well, they just have short versions of their names, for nicknames... or, double-ups of the short version (the mom's habit of such):
such as:
angelina = nina = ni ni

and most spanish names, take the first part and turn that into nicknames...

*example of a few:
roberto = robe
nicolas = nico
marianna = mari

or, they will add "ita" at the ends, to make it sound cute, if the kids are really little..

*example of one:
sara = sarita

wow, and me? from elizabeth, i got:
lizzy
liz
liza
lisa
beth (as my brother know me)
lizzy-ann
and
neebee!

worked my name down to the BEST:
the BEST---being that it is from my writer name, neebeeshaabookway!--
and---the best way to share with folks about seizure awarenes...

say---do YOU know what to do if you witness a person having a seizure?

*yep, you SURE can do a lot with best nicknames...

say, mark's, as you all know, is chappy! :)

Layton one time walked up to a complicated puzzle we had been working on and just randomly picked up a piece and plopped it in after the rest of us had been stumped for many minutes.

Justin, the older brother looked at him and said, "What are you, frickin' Rain Man?" That one has stuck with him pretty well too!

I earned the nickname "The Clock" in high school, for my ability to get my sister and I home before Dad discovered we hadn't gone wherever it was that we had told him we were going. Dad would go out with his girlfriend, and sometimes come home early and sometimes not at all. I don't know how I knew, but I always had us home, coats off and stories synchronized minutes before he walked in the door. I think it was the only reason my older sister let me, her little sister, tag along with her and her friends.

I climbed once with a guy reffered to, as 'Groundfall'. He was the first freeclimber I knew who ALWAYS wore a helmet.

Cool Breeze Pincolini. Why would you ever need to call him anything else?
