1966. Elegant

and economical

The Art Gran guide with its curiously significant descriptions

After heading to Chicago for grad school, I thought I had given up climbing.

just a great place

for the art work

Of course, the G. Smaill Squamish guide had great art, too, but my copy was needed elsewhere. In a different guide I found this description to a climb Brendan took me up twice this year.

This one doesn't have a date or an author but the cover picture is cool.

I've never seen that word: 'retable'. Very nice.

MH2, does your ME mountain climbing guide ID the cover pic? Looks maybe like the rock band above Tumbledown Pond.

Nice one Jay!

How old is that 80's?

Bet it beats the piss out of Harpers & Kelmans fire starter.

MH2, was that needles deal first made in '66 and just reprinted in later guide books?

Hey --- I really like this picture. Just like Hollywood. No stupid gear and all the bullsh'it talk involved about ethics, anchors, dumb ass cordelette and equalizers.

This is how it should be done .....

Great to hear that Ezra.

To provide others an idea of the early Dennis Merritt, as a kid he attended a summer camp with his friend Sidney. One day Dennis hid with a bucket of water and jumped out and doused Sidney. Sidney ran to get a bucket to return the favor. Dennis ran to Sidneys's bunk and put on all of Sidney's clothes.

That's a great one--I've got a later version--with the
free rappel off the Maiden. Vintage early '70's.
I also got to climb with Cleve McCarty one time--he was in
DC for the AAC meeting in early '76, and I took him to
Seneca Rocks. Had a great time.
"High Over Boulder" is also an awsome iceclimb up the Southfork
outside of Cody, Wyoming!
