Well, after 8 years of the "What -- Me worry??" President, who is PROUD that he does not read a newspaper, and can't be bothered to check facts, don't you think maybe it's about time we had a SMART person running the country?
Woodenhead, bluething, FatRed and Lowest don't need to reply, I know your answers. But for those of you who can actually think a little, what's your take on this?
Can the repugs actually get away with yet another good old boy, anti-intellectual, awww shucks, 'there you go again' campaign?
Electing a fellow dumbass to the white house just seems like a bad idea right now. Unless you enjoy the idea of another idiocracy.

Reports from a week ago or more alleged till now Putin has been very anxious to get along the the US because he considers us dangerous. As a nation with some 8000 nuclear weapons which also no longer acts in its own best interest, we are unpredictable. This unpredictability, indeed, makes us dangerous. As more and more nations, some among our long term allies, also come to this conclusion alignments all over the planet will begin to develop along this line. With luck, it will be an economic contest and I think our predisposition to go into outrageous debt will allow the struggle to lead in a good direction. I still have hopes for the world but until americans have gone through the fire, have regained the use of their minds, and have come back into contact with reality we will remain an idiocracy.

They're all elitists.
Every single one of them.
Obama, McCain, Biden, and Palin. Elitist, elitist, elitist, and elitist. It's silly to single out any one of them as being more or less elitist than the other.
All of them think they are better suited than anyone else to fix the world's problems, and all think they are better people than you. But once in awhile, not often mind you, we get lucky and elect someone who is actually better than the rest of us.

Poor Dirt. There he is rolled up in a little ball in his soiled little crib. There he is sobbing, wringing his little hands, snot running down his puffed up, red, little face. Soon mommy will appear and try to sooth his anguish. She'll probably say something like "Get your lazy ass out of bed, and get to work. The world doesn't revolve around you and your opinions. Live with it smuck."

"Can the repugs actually get away with yet another good old boy, anti-intellectual, awww shucks, 'there you go again' campaign?"
Yes, The Republicans have learned that being an anti-intellectual good old boy helps win elections. So they play that role, even when they aren't. For example George H. Bush (Dubya's Dad) was an Eastern elite but played the role of a Texan. In private he listened to opera but in public he pretended to prefer country western.

My main problem with Obama is with national security. It's my opinion that his failure to pick Hillary for VP was plain old fear that she'd be too much for him to handle. I think he was afraid of her. I believe he's basically an equivocal and somewhat timid and passive guy. I want someone who is strong and able to make decisions as President. I want someone who is self confident and in control. I don't think Obama has what it takes.

especially since most current governors are democrats!
wait, does this mean you DO believe in jesus, only his name is obama?
"Earlier this week, I watched, sickened, as CNN did its best to excite fear of Palin's religious beliefs. She grew up in a Pentecostal congregation - whose members, a smug reporter told us, often talk in tongues. Though the report noted that there's no "proof" that Palin herself had done so, the implication was that Sarah Barracuda must be a nut job.
Then CNN told us about an Alaskan pastor's remark that his state might become a refuge in the "end times." The implication was that Palin must share that belief, too.
The coverage just piled on, unjust, unfair and un-American. The unspoken bottom line was that active religious faith disqualifies a candidate.
Well, for all the joyous noise at those Alaskan churches, I'll bet my life that none of the pastors who preached to Palin over the years ever shouted "God damn America!" or blamed the United States for the world's ills, or accused our government of creating AIDS to kill black Americans.
None of the bigoted, hate-filled rants of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright have been replayed to counterbalance the mockery heaped upon Palin's religious background. Of course, Wright's anti-American tirades fit the worldview of the Dems' left-wing base - so Obama got a pass when he claimed that, over 20 years, he never heard any hate speech in Wright's church.
Besides, Dems believe that blacks are supposed to jump around and shout in church - but whites who do that are wackos. (No stereotypes there, folks!)
I don't see extremism in Palin's faith. I see the love of God that prevails beyond the Beltway. The media's bigotry toward her tells us far more about the political biases and snobbery of journalists than it does about Sen. John McCain's running mate."

My main problem with McCain is with national security. It's my opinion that his failure to pick the best candidate for VP was plain old shoot-from-the-hip decision making in the face of uncertainty. I think he was afraid of losing the election. I believe he's basically a reactionary and in the absence of ideas and alternatives to react to, is quick tempered and prone to bad judgment. I want someone who is strong and able to make decisions as President. I want someone who is self confident and in control. I don't think McCain has what it takes.

Bookworm, what planet are you from?
There was nothing but Wright coverage for weeks and weeks last spring.
It's interesting to watch McCain thrust an unknown and untested candidate into the spotlight as #2 in the ticket--a heartbeat of a 72 YO man away from being the commander and chief of the most powerful nation on Earth--then WHINE (waaaaaaaahhh!!!) about the supposed bad coverage (i.e., scrutiny) while sheltering her from the big bad undeferential* press because they might ask her a question or two she can't answer.
Cry me a river.
*Yes, the McCain campaign wanted to find a reporter who would show Queen Palin proper "deference."

Two points:
What's considered an elitist?
The other point is just what a spectacular job the GOP did of hiding Bush's deep blue-blooded roots. Dad was president; great grandfather was a U.S. senator. All East Coast educated, etc., etc. It's amazing how people will ignore all that and buy into the aw shucks act just because it's what they want to believe.
IMHO, (and I can't wait to hear all the BS from Chaz, Woody, bookworm in response to this) it's really only something a white guy could pull off. Can you imagine how that act play if Obama tried it.

The right's religious leaders blame abortion and homosexuals for 9/11, Obama's Wright blamed failed US foreign policy for 9/11...Hmmmm...which theory makes more sense??
Edit: Bottom line for me...Keep religion and politics separate, until the right can do that, count me out.

Actually Roger,Senator Obama looks anything but confident and in control. He is stuttering, whining and his speech patterns are swinging from inner city bro' to Harvard grad.He appears unable to stare down the republican vice presidential candidate,so doesn't look like anyone I'd want facing off with Putin or Kim Jong III.
I'd expect them all to be elitists.I question a man that has written two memoirs at age 43,serves half a term in the senate and decides he is ready to be president.Spare me the hype on the distinction of being an Illinois state legislator, there are 118 members of the house and 67 senators.Sounds like he roughly represented a county....whooooohoooo.

Yeah, you're right tomcat. Obama is a stuttering idiot when he stands up and says that there are much more important issues that need discussion--affordable health care, wages, the war in Iraq--rather than a lame@ss argument about lipstick. I guess that message must have been lost in all the stuttering.
You have no credibility and no position. When you characterize someone as smart as Obama, who has tried real hard to keep the campaign focused on the issues, as a stuttering idiot and hoist up the sarcastic, third tier ex-mayor of some podunk town with a smaller population than my high school as a politician experienced to take the world stage then you're just talking out of your @ss.

"You're starting to lose it, Bush acted in our best interest in attempting to restructure the ME, only the implementation was flawed. "
McCain '08- because while Republicans don't want anyone telling THEM what to do, they are happy to leverage military power to tell everyone ELSE how to live.

Dirt,I didn't vote for Bush twice.
Fat Dad,why don't you tell me why you are credible and me not? Just because you don't care for my observations?Every word I said is true.
I viewed the link that was posted here about the lipstick and pig.Obama was freaked.
So how did his lipstick speech fit into his position on the issues,I missed that part.Which issue was that, lipstick or pigs?
For the record I am pro lipstick,Tradchick uses that yummy raspberry stuff, but not wild about pigs.
P.S. Your desperation is comical to see.She is the governor of Alaska, but you are trying to paint her as the mayor of Wasilla still. You even stoop so low as to bring it up as the meth capital of Alaska, which of course would not fill a thimble compared to Chicago's meth consumption.

He was saying he's different on the issues than the current administration, and McCain isn't...though McCain says he's for 'change'.
Not hard to understand at all...thought he was pretty clear actually.
If you don't know what his stances are, take a look:
